Component-Based Development Software engineering has become more complex than ever with industries seeking individuals who have the ability to fulfill specific needs in this area. Given the high level training needed to solve practical problems in the field, it is worth admitting that the 4-year CDT program has greater advantage over the normal 3 year course. The four year course offers the student the time to grasp the complexities of software design and engineering without having to worry about time as a possible limitation.

Furthermore, the program is unique, recently established to equip students with research skills that are valuable for PhD level learning. I have had an interest in computer science ever since I was young and this interest has never faded to-date. So far I have successfully completed by Bachelor and Master Degree in Computer Science, with a bias in software engineering, earning first class honors in each case. I have also managed to successfully complete several projects including conducting an analysis of a new social network, website design and designing of software using UML 2.0. Having had practical experience in various work environments, I feel that I need to acquire more knowledge so as to gain the capacity to solve some of the complex problems that different organizations face with respect to software design and engineering.

It is for this very reason that I decided to undertake a PhD related to computer science. I am most interested in Component-Based Software (CBD) engineering. My interest in CBD follows my appreciation of the fact that software is getting more and more complex, and the need for safety, reliability and scalability is true in the marketplace. With CBD, I am confident that I will be able to solve complex software issues for an organization at affordably and therefore to the organization’s advantage.

During my study as an undergraduate, I worked with IBM and contributed in the design of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler as well as its compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Yet again, during period of study as a Master student, I managed to apply the lean method of software development in the development of a new kind of social network. It is at this time that I also discovered about SCRUM, XP and BDD as favorable alternative methods of software development. As can be proved from my CV, I am very hardworking and have the requisite skills and experience necessary in tackling more complex assignments in a fast moving technological world.

What I need to become an accomplished software engineer is a boost in terms of PhD education. My desire for great achievements has always driven me to great heights. I have always had a passion to create new innovations in the field of technology. I also appreciate that to achieve my objectives, I must learn in a conducive environment; one that offers learning opportunities and practical challenges. It is in consideration of this that I have opted to place my application to the University of Manchester.

I hope that my application will be found worthy of consideration.
