Problem Solving College: Problem Solving It is the dream of each to have a better paying job once they completetheir education. Nobody ever thinks of spending years while job searching yet they are educated. Therefore, every individual has this mind while in college that they get a job immediately they graduate. None the less, it sounds unreal when you hear that someone has spent ten or more years without a job and yet they have the best education. All these are some of the life challenges that we have to live with as human beings. We all know the famous phrase that says “every person has his or her own luck.” It may sound true, but most of the time it is not luck but fate that decides our future. For instance, many college dropouts get well paying jobs while those that have graduated may luck jobs. Similarly, people who come from prominent families seem to have smooth lives when it comes to job searching and allocation while those from the simple families have to go extra miles in order to find one. It is all determined by fate and not luck. This paper seeks to solve the problem of completing degree education in order to get a promotion or go for another job without completing the degree level. Having worked for this company for the past eleven years, I decided to go back to college. This is because I realized that the current job market requires personnel who are more educated and have high levels of education. Getting a degree is the only way for me to get a promotion in the company. Doing the degree in my current position is not a problem since the company offers for the tuition reimbursement. Therefore, I am a bit relieved off the fee burden and this has made it possible for me to continue with my education. The only thing I have to think of is balancing between my education and the job. This is not an issue since I have managed for the past few years. Some days to completion of my education, I come across a position in a competing company. Surprisingly, my supervisor recommends me for the job due to my performance in the current company. The thing is that my supervisor is assured I will get the job yet I have not completed the degree level. All the same, the starting date of the job is in fortnight during which am supposed to sitting for my exams. To make the matter worse the job is in another state . This is not the situation to be in at the present. My current company is catering for my education which s not the case with the other company. In my current position, am assured of a promotion once I graduate which is the reason why I went back to school. Also, I am a little comfortable working in my state since I know many people who can assist in case of any problems including my supervisors. However, the job recommended to me is tempting considering the annual salary rise offered. Similarly, it has quite a number of allowances that one can benefit from. The starting date is exactly the period am supposed to start my final examinations of which I do not want to miss. This is because the exams are the only way out to my promotion and the reason I went back to school. Missing the exams means that I am not qualified to the promotion which I have been longing for. Notably, the vacant position is aimed at by more learned personnel than me and am yet to get to their level. The problem now is that I have to graduate whether I get the new job or not but I do not know how to go about it. In my current situation, the only solution is to forego one of the jobs. I have to complete my exams thereby getting a degree in order to get a promotion from my current position. All the same this means that I have to miss the starting of the other job in the other state. On the hand, I have a high chance of getting the new job as my former supervisor has assured me of the same. The problem is that if I opt for the job, I have to forget the examinations and the degree as well. The possible solution is to check whether one can sit for the examination while in another state. This will have done away with the problem of missing the examinations due to the fact that am away for another job. Another possible solution is to investigate whether the examinations can be rescheduled to another day, either an earlier or later date. Preferably, an earlier date will do as it will give me the chance to know my fate at the new company as to whether am legible for the job or not. Therefore, I do not have to miss the examinations as well as the set date for starting the job. The two possible solutions to my problem are to either miss my exams and get the job or do the exam and miss the job. My best option is to kill two birds with one stone that is trying out both solutions at the same time. This means I have to contact the examination office and inform them of my request to have my examination dates rescheduled. One thing that is clear is that I do not want to miss my exams. This is because am not sure of getting the new job despite the assurance from my supervisor. I might decide foregoing the exams for the new job then the company goes for the personnel with a master’s degree. This will make me loose the promotion at the current company. Also, I might miss on the reporting day then I miss the job if the employer goes for someone with more experience and not high levels of education which I posses. Going by changing the examination date, I have to know when to start the exam and when the results will be out. Notably, I have to pass the examinations in order not to disappoint my current employer and supervisor. It is true I needed the promotion but then the new chance that has presented itself is much better. Despite the fact the competing company does not offer tuition reimbursement, the salary and allowance can cater for it. There will be no housing problem and thus this makes the new company my option. Another reason for the new company is that I will have the chance to work in a new environment and interact with new people. All am assured of is that if I miss on the position am looking for in the competing company, I will a promotion in my current company. Next after deciding what company to go for, I have to contact the new company and inform the employer of my interest in the position. Also I have to inform him or her of my current situation and the exam am preparing for in order to get his or her opinion. Having done all that, the remaining part is for the hiring company to approve or reject my proposition. Notably, I have to plan my exit from the current company although it will only be known to me that am planning to leave. Visiting the new company for familiarization is one of my plans so that I do not get stranded once I resume the job. All this I will do with the hope that I will get the position. In conclusion, it is a dream almost maturing to get a promotion in my current company as well as work in a competitive company. Both openings are worth in my current status therefore getting either the new job or the promotion is not bad. I have to try both chances since I do not know the side of coin I will fall to.
