Should Prostitution Be Prohibited? Prostitution ought to be prohibited in all parts of the world. It is not ethically ormorally right to sell one’s body as if it were a product in demand. It lures many women who are financially challenged into it since they do not want to look for alternative measures of earning a living. It breaks many marriages and relationships since it gives men the chance to cheat on either their wives or girlfriends (Weitzer 26). It also increases the rates of crime rate in the society since it may result to physical abuse and drug trafficking. Furthermore, it promotes the growth of an immorally-based community. Based on the above underpinning evidence, it is justifiable to strongly say that prostitution ought to be prohibited in our society. Prohibition of prostitution will reduce the high number of incidences of adultery. Prostitution gives men the opportunity to cheat on their girlfriends and wives in an easy. Therefore, if it is prohibited cheating men will suffer extremely consequences since the law will be on their toes. As a result, the number of men who take advantage of prostitutes, wives, or girlfriend will decrease dramatically. Indeed, prostitution ought to be prohibited since it gives rise to many problems in relationships and marriage as well as pave way for many other crimes. Prohibition of prostitution will create a friendly environment for all; especially the children. This is because prostitution makes it hard to explain to children the difference between money and sex, and love and sex since it make them believe that money is more worthy than self-esteem and love. In fact, prostitution immensely affects the morale of a society or community (Weitzer 45). This is because it makes such a society ignore and become immune to graphicness of sexual images that are thrown in its members faces daily. As a result, members of a society hardly understand the significance of private and personal relationships. In fact, prostitution lowers women dignity since it makes them send the message to men that it is alright to be treated like sexual objects. Connectively, many women are subject to wrath of sexual pressure in order to measure up to hookers. As such, prostitution, breaking up of ethical and social barriers that many women have worked on in order to reduce sexual harassment occurs. Prohibition of prostitution will help reduce the mentality harbored by many men that women can easily be bought and sold like goods or services. Prohibition of prostitution will help avoid turning sex into a full-blown business. Prostitution has a high likelihood of making sexual services commercial; hence, making them likes any other consumer and entertainment goods. For instance, there many casinos, in Australia where prostitution is legal, which deal with sexual favor chips that, are cashed in at various local brothels (Weitzer 67). Commercialization of sex will be eliminated upon prohibition of prostitution. Prohibition of prostitution will also reduce the large number of crimes rates that are sky-rocketing. According to Weitzer (87), most prostitutes sell their bodies since they are in dire need of money to purchase illegal drugs. In connection to this, prohibition of prostitution will cut down the rate of illegal drug trafficking. Governments that have legalized prostitution only serve to promote street or underground prostitution to avoid paying taxes that these governments charge. These prostitutes feel fail to pay taxes since they believe that they did all the work alone; therefore, they should reap their profits and benefits alone. This, in turn, increases the number of crime and abuse against hookers since it put quite a number of them on the streets. Prohibition of prostitution will further will reduce or eliminate the number of advertisements for sexual favors that pop up on every street; even in places that families and parents strongly oppose them to be. As a result, incidences of children developing immune to the promiscuity of their society and turn to lives of prostitution will immensely reduce. Prohibition of prostitution will further reinstate the true equality of women since it will shun down the idea that a particular group of women should avail their body for men’s sexual access. Such an idea is only based on the structural inequality by race, class, and gender, and it violates international law on equality. It is vital that people shun any form of legalizing prostitution since it undermines every human rights norm that require all people to be treated with dignity in an equal manner (Weitzer 123). Indeed, if prohibition of prostitution were implemented, then most of the practices like physical assault, emotionally damaging verbal abuse, or rape that violate human rights will decrease in an enormous manner. According to Weitzer (76), prostitution should be prohibited since it is a symptom of the problem, and not the problem itself. The problem is religious control, inequitable distribution of resources, fear of women, patriarchy, inequality, and discrimination. Therefore, governments and other organizations ought to turn their focus from the symptom and deal with the underlying problem. They should work together to fight the real enemy. For instance, they should equalize political power since researches show that violence against women is lower in countries where women have a higher percentage of political power (Weitzer 34). These institutions and governments should prohibit prostitution and maintain structural equality regardless of one race, gender, or class if they believe in a world where human rights out rule everything and men and women share equal power and dignity. Prohibiting prostitution will to some extent reduce the number of individuals who are diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. This is because prostitution plays a key role in promoting the widespread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. This is because even if a prostitute get tested for HIV every week she has a high likelihood of testing negative for the first twelve week after being infected. Therefore, a prostitute may expose up to six hundred and thirty clients to HIV, while the test is becoming positive and results becoming known. The situation may worsen since most prostitutes are unlikely to leave their job even after testing positive. Sexually transmitted diseases are further spread since most prostitutes indulge in sex without using any form of protection, like the use of condoms. This is a clear indication, that legalizing prostitution is not the best approach; instead nations should focus their attention on abolishing prostitution. Many people falsely believe that prostitution is a key factor in eliminating rape; however, this is not true. How can prostitution eliminate rape when itself present a true picture of bought rape? There is a wide connection between rape and prostitution; in both cases women are turned into sexual objects by men since they can either be bought or sold. Rape flourishes in a culture where women can be bought or sold for use (Weitzer 59). Similarly, prostitution should be prohibited since most prostitutes indulge in it due to forced economic reasons. Researches show that many prostitutes do not choose their profession; instead some of them get into this profession due to economic needs with few or no alternatives. They need to earn a living in order to support both themselves and their loved. Prohibition of prostitution will force such women look for alternatives ways of earning a living. In addition, it will push the government and other nongovernmental organization to look for ways through which they can help these prostitutes. For instance, the government or non-governmental organizations may decide to give grants or loans to such prostitutes in order to uplift their lives. Following this, the prostitutes may decide to start their own businesses in order to support their families and boost the overall economic status of their society. In conclusion, I would like to challenge all those individuals who immensely oppose the prohibition of prostitution to come out of their cocoon, and realize the huge amounts of immorality that it has brought to the society. It serves to promote adultery amongst married couples, increase rates of crime rate, and increased the number of people who live or die from sexually transmitted diseases or even worse from HIV and AIDs.
