One such work is the essay, “Why Johnny Can’t Tell Right from Wrong” written by Christina Hoff Sommers, in which she describes the modern world and depicts various examples to support her statement that the present day youth is tormented in a world of moral confusion. History has witnessed the progress in mankind throughout centuries but, unfortunately, this progress has reached a level where ethical conduct is not given so much importance like it earlier was. Along with parents, educational institutions play a very important role in teaching moral values and ideals to children. However, educational organizations nowadays are more inclined towards academics and do not consider aspects of moral stimulation. This leaves children, mainly the youth in a trance-like state where they cannot distinguish right from wrong. Thus, Christina says in her essay “conceptually and culturally, today’s young people live in a moral haze” (Hoff, n.d.). As far as I’m concerned, I agree with the author, because the youth in general faces such confusions as they struggle amidst a lot of challenges during this time and it is very difficult for them to know which is right and which is not. ...
