number Book Critique of Monoculture by F.S Michael F.S Michaels argues that the closest economy that is formed by the modern world in relation to the dominant philosophy is done thorough economics and capitalism in his book which is entitled Monoculture. He uses it as the starting point in relation to the fundamental issues that act as a challenge to the society as they are challenged by this particular philosophy which is highlighted in the last part of the course material (1). It is because of this that along the way certain aspects of nature of issues that are explored. These include work, education and other social issues. In this paper, there will be the inclusion of a reflection on one of the related topics that take a major part of the philosophical and literary theme. In the book, the writer makes efforts to bring out the aspects of a rise in the economic story that has resulted in the fundamental change of lives. However, this is reflected in different ways in the different chapters that are found within the book. Each of them aims at revealing how this issue is significantly undergoing change. The main point of this book is chiefly about monoculture. Its contents majorly revolve around the aspects of human beings that are experienced during day to day activities. This is because they mainly discuss whom we are, where we are approaching from and where we are headed towards. Thus, in monoculture one of such stories has taken over other stories and is narrowing down with a great level of diversity. As such it is creating some form of monoculture. The author discusses how the economic story rises especially with regard to how it can fundamentally change life. This is especially in relation to whom an individual is, what they know as well as whether they are right. As individuals go about the daily activities of their lives within a world that is driven by capitalism, people tend to lose touch with humanity as well as charity. The knowledge for the sake of freedom in the society is created by the control of a mono culture by the society. This is the case in every corner of life as Michael reflects in the issue of pervasiveness that is brought about by the attempt to privatize public goods. It is as a result of this that people have the right to choose the kind of services and goods that they would like to have within their lives. This is despite the reality that, as consumers who want to get a lot of knowledge, people are always bombarded by numerous advertisements. The other types of interruptions include the media since they shape the preferences to believe that we need things that at times we do not. There is a great transformation in the level of diversity in varied parts of life and subsequently changes the way that people live their lives. For instance, in the chapter where Michaels talks about finding another way in the last chapter, he states that the experiences of Vaclav Havel of a parallel way that is rang in a particularly true way in the Czechoslovakia of a building (110). Among all the alternative values and behaviors that he elicits, they do not reflect any particular thing. One only participates in them because they are compelled to. It is not because the individuals stand a high chance of the activity becoming a mass movement. This was a true experience to me based on a story that is real in my life. One of the stories that are told about this aspect includes the fact that I have been a vegetarian for a long time of my life. For the 20 years in which I have been practicing this difficult aspect, most of the people in my life have found the experience a little bit threatening. According to them, I am making a lot of efforts to convince all the other people around me to engage in similar activities. On the other hand, there are those who believe that I am being a vegetarian so that I can ensure that all the animals are saved since they will not be slaughtered for food. Besides these, there are also those who speculate that I am conducting it for the good of my own health or for the simple reason that I do not like animal meat among many other reasons that people come up with in their speculations. In particular, I do not practice the aspect of vegetarianism because of any specific reason since I do not have any particular end for it. However, it is because of the compelling factor that I feel towards it. This is however not because of the economic reasons that are attached to it or the financial story that most of the individuals live by (115). In my view, there is no point of engaging yourself in an activity that is awkward and does not give you the offer to have any pleasures without the intention of getting any benefit simply because you have the feeling that it may be right. In conclusion, this perspective can be considered to be right since it show how what people think and their subsequent lives are related. This brings out the fact that the way that people think shape the way that they act. In this way, monoculture not only acts to change your mind but also your lifestyle. It is in the way that through my experience with other people as a result of my vegetarian lifestyle it could have appeared as if I was building my own parallel structure without having the realization of it. Therefore, this book in its view clearly articulates this part of my life for me. The book is written in a way that is direct to the point and contains a stimulating read that presents a chance to reflect on the text. With this, I can conclude that it is well written, easy to approach and accessible especially from its parallel section. In conclusion, it is reasonable enough to categorize the book under polemics pieces of work. This is mainly because there are other areas that have been overly simplified and generalized in a way that they can cause the reader to winch a bit. It also contains some alternatives that are ineffective yet are still classified as challenges or alternatives.
