Philosophical and Ethical Concepts Question1 When making charitable contributions there are very many things that an individual should consider before making that step. The public has come to learn this, and the nonprofit performances are now at a higher risk. Most of the members of the public have lost confidence in the charitable organizations. It has been noted that most of the charity organizations have been very wasteful. They have misused the funds that have been donated to them. Over 70 percent of the Americans believe that the organizations have been stated to be very wasteful on the charitable funds that they get. Only 10 percent of the Americans are convinced that the charity organizations have been doing the right thing and using the money wisely. 17 percent of the Americans believe that the funds were making the right decisions. The statistics show how much the charity organization created mistrust to their donors. The ethical concern is of much importance in this case, and they need much proper understanding. The moral judgment comes later after addressing the ethical concerns. To start with, one needs to go through the principal forces that affect the experience of the organizations. The ethical issues that are in the non-profit sector should also be the subject of discussion in order to solve the problems that are associated with the charitable organizations. Thereafter there has to be solutions to the problems that face the charity organizations on the issue of misconduct. There are the ethical challenges in the organizations, and they lead to the misconduct. The challenges that are evident in this case and they end up in criminal violations (VanderWallen 142). The moral conduct has got some crucial factors that influence them. Moral awareness is very much essential when it comes to addressing the ethical issues. After creating the moral awareness in a charity organization, it is crucial to come up with an ethical decision making which is thereafter followed by moral intent. The last step is coming up with the moral actions. Following all these steps will result in the elimination of the misconduct. The moral judgment of the people is crucial for all aspects. In this case the moral sense of the donors is critical. The donor is a person who wants to contribute to the charity work. It is crucial for the donors to be enlightened about the misconducts in organization. The donors play a great role in the charity donations they make. They donors should be cautious when making their decisions. They should make sure that the contributions are made go to the genuine organizations that have got proper management. The judgments made by the leaders of such organizations are very crucial, and they should get a follow up from all the stakeholders. All the arrogant leaders of such an organization should be scrapped off from their seats. The donors should look up for organizations that exercise transparency in all the activities that take place in the body. The media enterprise has got its role to play in the issue of charity organizations. People have got different perceptions on various issues concerning the welfare organizations. Some of them might have bad attitude. They at times end up spreading the negativities of the welfare organizations to other individuals and lastly the influence will lead to a reduction of the donations that these people bring forward. The charitable organizations must improve the management especially when it comes to the case of the employees who have excessive pressure during the generation of the funds. Such employees may also end up misleading the conduct. The social media has had a significant role in the charity program. It has created a great influence to the people. The platform has created an avenue for reaching the people in order to collect more funds. There has to be a safe and successful social media strategy. The first plan to put in place is to define the target audience. The charity groups should identify the most commonly used channels by their audience. The charity organization should also try and get more audience, and this should be done using the ways that have been identified to be of interest to most of the members. The target should be a certain demographic. When using the media, there has to be preparation that should be done in advance. In the social media platform, there should be monitoring of what the conversations that the people have. This will help get the figures of the population who would be interested in the charity activities. Most of the charity organizations establish partnerships with social media groups or get sponsorship from them. Through the media, the charity organizations are able to advertize about their needs and how they give out the ways that the donors can send their donations. The charity organizations that people should support are those that have good management, where the leaders exercise good leadership skills. The leaders in this case should be able to monitor the employees and make sure they are free of corruption. The organization should be very transparent and give out the records of what they have spent annually. It is also advisable to make donations to the charity organizations that are in need of the funds since some of them are not reasonable. A good team has got employees who are not greedy. Such employees dont demand more pay and they are not corrupt, so that leads to the success of an organization. The image of the organization matters most to the donors. If the Image is tarnished by the management, this might as well cause the needy who depend on such organizations to suffer. Charity organizations must also be registered with the government. The government controls and monitors such organizations in order to ensure that they not ensure that they are not involved in fraud activities. The donors should look out for organizations that have a real financial integrity, accountability, and strategic management. The organizations should be in a position to promote the ethical decision making. There should be some set of rules that govern the organizations and ensure ethical conduct. The ethical conduct can be achieved by making sure that there are adequate codes of conduct and that they comply with the program. There should also be promotion of the financial management and lastly institutionalization of ethical cultures. Question2 The railroad plays a very great role in the Atlas Shrugged. Dagny Taggart was the vice president of the railroad. The author, Ayn Rand focused much on the railroad. She had been brought up in another setup where she had many other things to talk about, but the railroads were the most common thing. In the United States, the construction of the railroads began in the 1863. In a span of 6 years there was a significant improvement on the railroads in the United States and over 1700 miles of track had been laid. The railroad was considered to a giant leap for the mankind. It was rated to be the greatest achievement in the whole world. Nothing would be compared to the railroad in the world. The completion of the railroad happened in the year 1869 (Jordan 123). By the year 1864, there were 33860 miles of railroad. One of the roles of the road was to connect the west and the new states that had come up. The railroad was also expanded order to connect the east to the territories of the west. There before it had become very hard to move from one point to another overland. The young and the ambitious were the only people who dared travel overland. The railroad was very essential for the country. The railroad was expected to encourage the people to settle even in the marginalized areas. Dagny Taggart is the vice president of the railroad. He worked very hard to make sure that all the operations of the railroad run smoothly. During this period, she goes through many hardships. Most of the entrepreneurs during this period are getting to retirement. There happens to have crisis in the railroad. The primary roles of building a railroad were to serve the Francisco D. Anconia’s copper mills (Rand and Brick 48). There was a crisis in the mills company. The railroads had very many role. Many people in the region wholly depended on them for transport from one area to another. Other people depended on the railroads for the purpose of marketing their products from one region to another. The railroad also brought unity to the areas that were connected with it. The railroads were also a source of employment. Many people were employed to maintain the railroads and others for management. The railroads were also used in the wars, and they helped to transfer troops from one area to another. The social media have played a great role in the United States and also to the rest of the world. It has become one of the most common things that the people use in our day to day lives. In the United States, their technology has been noted to be one of the best in the world. There has been technological advancement in the country. The social media platform has created awareness of the people. Most of the people have gotten enlightened about things they had no knowledge about. The social media have become a spot where people get news. Many channels have taken the opportunity, and they give out updates on the trending issues in the world. The story has become available and accessible to the social media. The interaction that takes place on the social media platforms has increased on such a significant scale. People are now able to keep in touch more often than before. The social media technology is very different from that used in the railroads. They all lie in the topic of transport and communication. They all help to facilitate a better life. Question 3 The propaganda techniques are the improper appeals that happen to an emotion, and it leads to the changing of an individual opinion. Propaganda influences the peoples attitudes. The behaviors and the beliefs of the population are affected. In the case of propaganda, there is the spreading of the ideas the rumors and the information. It is done to ruin the reputation of an institution or a particular person. Propaganda has always been there since time immemorial. The technology has allowed the passing of the information to the mass group. The technology has evolved through the scientific process. The propaganda has mostly been used in wars in the posters bearing a particular message. The propaganda is now been used politically to influence the attitudes of the people. Most of the elections in most of the countries has been characterized by propaganda (Clews 16). The advertisement is passed through the commercials on the TV. The candidates who are vying for a particular seat use this technique in order to win over their competitors. The media are also used to pass propaganda about the countries that have developed a nuclear technology. Propaganda is very powerful, and most of the people tend to be so much interested in it. Most of the people end up believing in it. Propaganda is not an easy thing to realize. The United States media has been involved in many propaganda issues where there is favoring of the atomic power of one country to another. France is known to have a good relationship with the United States and so France enjoy the freedom since they would never get exposed because of their atomic power (Clews 16). The relationship between Pakistan and the United States is not so smooth. This is as a result of Pakistan backing up Israel after the conflicts the two countries had concerning the nuclear activities. Because of the relationships between the United States and the two countries, it is very evident that the propaganda took place in the American media about the nuclear technology of France been positive than that of Pakistan. Propaganda can be analyzed in very many ways. By following the context of how the propaganda occurs, identifying the people behind the propaganda and going through the structure of the propaganda organizations. It is also important to review the ideology of the propaganda and the targeted audience. The media use very many techniques to pass propaganda to the people. One of the propaganda techniques that has been evident is the snob appeal. In this case is whereby there are claims that are made on how people should act or make claims. Another technique is the rewriting of the history. The propagandists use such methods to make their claims to the people by comparing it with the past. Projection is another tactic used to spread propaganda. In this case somebody accuses the opponent of doing something to him. In this instance they try to show the negativities of the other person in an argument. Panic mongering is also a technique that is used to inflict fear to the audience. In this case it happens each and every day for a continuous period. Scapegoating is another method used to pass the fear. In this case the minor groups and the insecure people find themselves at risk. They are blamed for the social and economic problems. Bullying is a technique used to pass propaganda. The yelling that two people have makes one party to get exploited even when it is right and by that we can call it propaganda. Confusion is another thing that might lead to propaganda. This type of technique works for the people who are less confident about themselves. The idea in this case is to confuse the people by the arguments held. Question 4 In the event of the Harlan miners speak novel, the author has used the investigative method as the type of journalism. Interpretive journalism is part of the journalism that has been employed in the book. The author tries to uncover the truth behind the terrorism that hat taken place in the Kentucky oil fields. Theodore Dreiser played a significant role in getting the information concerning the Kentucky terrorism. The book was published in1932. The book contained both retrieved history and the valuable resources. There are witnesses who gave testimonies concerning the social crises and the economic crises during the early depression era. Investigative journalism is evident there (Dreiser 14).The testimonies are the voices that that are related to the Appalachian labor history. The journalists cover the environmental exploitation and the class conflict that is very evident in this case. During the investigation process, the journalists also include the fragile social contract which is between the employers and the employees. The ideological struggles and the job control are also included in the novel. The responsibility of the public and the government is also addressed here in this context. The book also advocates the protection of the workers and all the communities in the economy. (Dreiser 77) The book was written as a result of the effort of the committee of writers in 1932. They gave guidance on the flow of the book, and they came up with a report concerning the nature of the book. Theodore Dreiser was the chairman of the committee. He made investigations on the coalfields. He also had a counterpart who helped him in his studies. William Z. Foster was a leader of the American Communist Party and he helped Theodore to carry on his studies on the Coalfields. An incident occurred when Dreiser was in Kentucky, and it affected the work of the committee. In the month of November Dreiser was noticed to be traveling with his companion Mary and after been spotted leaving a hotel room, they were declared to have committed adultery. The other problem is that the writers were said to have ideologies that led to condescension to the destitute miners together with their families. In this case it is very evident that the type of journalism applied is investigative. Dreiser made sure that he was able to investigate the coal, its workers and the markets. The coal industry had been going through a great crisis in almost three years. There was a need for the problems to be addressed with immediate effect. The journalists made sure that historical causes of the poverty in the regions where the poverty had stricken were revealed (Eaman 67). Dreiser and the case of him and his lover was also shown though no step was taken by them. The facts that have been laid down concerning the issue of the coal in Kentucky mines. The writers went through all the challenges that the miners faced when working. The authors also explain the working conditions of the region. There is detailed information about how coal ended up being a source of employment and the growth of the region that was caused by mining the coal. We also get to be taught how the coal markets made an increase in the operating costs and how the small profits increased (Christians 78). In the context the journalists also get to review the relationship between the coal, the bosses, and the workers. The production of the bituminous coal production had gone high and thereafter there was a problem that led to some problems in the coal industry. There was an increase in the competition of fuels for the home heating. Dreisers investigative team made its accomplishments after the investigations. The team presented the facts that they got from the investigations. The team of reporters compiled all the facts. The investigative team played a great role in the whole process of investigating the coal mines in Kentucky. The report that was tabled by the committee members was meant to help political prisoners and offer them defense (Christians 78). John Dos Passos also played a significant role during the investigation of the dangerous situation of the Kentucky miners. He explains about the competition that was between the communist national miners and the united mine workers of America. He also lays focus on the problems that the families of the miners went through. The investigation shows the situation in the past and the present. The words of the miners are stated directly to demonstrate how serious the matter was. Works Cited Christians, Clifford G. Normative Theories of the Media: Journalism in Democratic Societies.
