Both males and females have been steeped in new consumer standards, shifted via cradle-to-grave marketing, and they have the propensity for commodifying themselves and others to a greater degree than preceding generations. Consumer standards such as the American obsession with celebrity beauty translate into acceptable objectification for both women and men. Arguably, this new American consumer culture has cultivated an astonishing trend that is motivating this movement of established objectification. Harris’ misguided supposition that reproducing beautiful children gives them an advantage in society is plain objectification of beauty. The occurrence of consensual objectification, the first characteristic of the new period of objectification will be more apparent in the American culture. And since beautiful people have more advantages in life because of people’s first impression of them: this in turn could end up sexualizing both beautiful women and women and the resultant negative effects. The steady barrage of popular culture's perceptions of celebrity beauty obsession that standardizes the objectification of beauty could drive many girls to imitate an objectified standing preceding even their sexual maturity.  ...Download file to see next pages Read More
