Although this has been a norm during the last many decades and various subsequent researches have been unable to point out the deficiency inherent in the model; the model has however been challenged recently as it has failed to explain the current flow phenomenon in the lithium ion batteries.
This discovery surfaced when a cell containing a carbon coated porous electrode was used to analyze the validity of the old concept; while the older model failed to explain the results, the Marcus-Hush-Chidsey theory successfully explained the flow of energy within the battery. This theory gives a new insight into the phenomenon of flow of energy in a battery and relates it to rate of flow of electrons between carbon coating and porous electrode. The difference is more marked at higher voltages.
