Ignition basis system Ignition basis system It is interesting to learn that the main turbine engines in aircraft operate with two ignition system. Each of the two ignition systems consist of an exciter, ignition plug and the ignition lead. The article has gone ahead to describe the functions of each of the parts aforementioned. The exciter serves as the power supply for the entire ignition system. As such, it provides sufficiently high voltage that is required to fire the igniter plugs. It is interesting to note that the ignition exciter operate at 24V, car batteries that operate at 12V.

Similarly, the ignition lead works as the conductor of electric power from the source (ignition exciter) to the ignition plug. It is also interesting on how the ignition lead is designed. The lead wire is surrounded by a metallic braid that protects it from electromagnetic interference. It also serves as a ground return for the entire system. Imperatively, the entire ignition process ends when the energy received by the ignition plug is transformed to an electrical spark. The spark ignites the fuel and air mixture leading to combustion.

According to the site, the ignition plugs requires to be maintained or changed regularly. In this case, the ignition plug requires to be inspected minimally at regular intervals. The site suggests that close attention should be paid to such rejection factors as cracked ceramic insulators, excessive tip erosion, or any other evidence of igniter area burn-through or taking too long to ignite.Referencehttp://www.aviationpros.com/article/10387463/troubleshooting-looking-at-the-ignition-system
