“Sigmund Freud’s work and theories helped shape our views of childhood, personality, memory, sexuality and therapy” (Cherry). Freud got his doctorate degree in the field of medicine in 1881. Some of his early works related to the fields of medicine and psychology include research on cerebral palsy, the publication of ‘Studies on Hysteria’ in 1895, the introduction of the term ‘Psychoanalysis’ in 1896, the publication of ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’ (a book) in 1900, and publication of ‘Psychopathology of Everyday Life’ in 1901. Freud was a great thinker and psychologist, whose works influenced the thoughts and research of a number of other psychologists, such as Anna Freud, Erik Erikson, Melanie Klein, and Alfred Adler.

“He pioneered new techniques for understanding human behavior, and his efforts resulted in the most comprehensive theory of personality and psychotherapy ever developed” (Rana). Although Freud’s works had a great influence on the field of human psychology and psychosexual development, he also faced criticism during his whole life, as well as today.
