Impacts of technology on human anxiety and stress Number Impacts of technology on human anxiety andstress The analysis carried out by Hay and Meldrum (2010) reveals that cyber bullying is positively linked to self-harm including suicide ideation. The dangers are partially impacted on by the dampened emotions in the victims. The authors, however, indicate that the existence of proper rules to guide the use of Internet and related technologies could reduce anxiety and stresses, which may eventually self-harm.

On the other hand, Schneider, O’Donnell and Stueve (2012) argue that victims of cyber bullying register poor performance in tasks due to reduced level of concentration. According to the researchers, distress levels are more prevalent among victims of cyber bullying compared to those who are protected from such dangers (Schneider, O’Donnell, & Stueve, 2012). According to Brown and Roloff (2011), constant communication reduces the overall stress levels, because the victims are engaged and kept abreast with what is happening within their environment.

Through communication, those suffering from stress also give a feedback and feel appreciated within the community where they exist. More often than not, people engage in multitasking behavior, but the victims may not easily notice it. Nonetheless, multitasking is not healthy because it reduces the level of accuracy needed to perform the tasks. The behavior is also linked to low mood after the tasks (Brown, & Roloff, 2011). Before the advent of social media, people had no otherwise but to make physical interactions with their associates (Hay, & Meldrum, 2010).

However, today’s social media has reduced the importance of face to face contacts among people in society. The face to face form of physical interaction has since been replaced with Internet-based communications such as Instant Messaging, chat forums, and video conferencing. On the other hand, social media has increased the chances of face to face interactions among individuals who were not friends before they met on the social sites.
