Cognitive Concepts School Skinner was an American philosopher that worked on issues regarding behaviors in relation to the ability and personality. He argued out that behaviors are maintained from one state to the other by concentrating on the same consequence on the same area. Behaviors are the results of factors that are enhanced by consequence. (Westbrook, 2007) We can relate the concept to today’s culture of social media use. The behavior of social media use is maintained by the continued use of the same and for the same purpose repeatedly.

People use social media sites such as youtube and facebook to ensure they are connected with each other. As a result, end up in a continued addiction in the use of the sites. This is explained by skinner’s concept to be a behavior. Yes, our behaviors change because of the same environment. According to Skinner’s concept, behaviors change comes under influence of several aspects. Dignity, Value and freedom are the three things that may influence the decision of behavior change. (Oakley, 2004) Jim can be identified to have a weakness in coping with the psychological aspect of his life.

He is in a mix of two decisions and as a result, he drifts into a psychological bondage. Going by the facts got by Bandura’s argument, Jim is supposed to observe what his parents are doing, and then adapt to their behaviors. According to research, observation is one of the main cognitive methods that a person may use to develop to the next level psychologically. (Goswami, 2003) Observation is the best social cognitive concepts that Jim may use to fix his psychological issues. This is because, observation appears to the crucial method of learning in this situation.

He is biased in two ways where he is not sure which way to follow. The only viable concept is observing and then following what he has identified as positive. We can learn several applications from Bandura’s notion about observation. Like in the case of Jim, we have things that befall us in our daily lives, which leave us oriented on a two-way system. To ensure a clear decision, observation should be applied to help us emerge on a decided issue. In life, every one requires a role model who he admires and look up to him/her.

For example, if a kid is asked what he would want to become in future, the highest percent would say that they would want to become like their dad. In this case, observation plays a crucial role in determining what we want and what we are after. Another application that can be related to Bandura’s concept is when one is choosing a career. To ensure that whatever decision we make is right, observation must be involved. One can observe the other people who may be in the same career. This would help in making sure that the people who are in that particular career area have those traits that one wills to have.

(Wallen, 2000)In the case of Jim, the person who would have played a significant part is the father. We are told that Jim’s father has graduated lately. The action of graduating contains a strong impact to Jim’s life. In this case, Jim should look up on his father as his mentor and follow what he says.
