 1) An 8-year-old is the child of a single mother. Mom provides for all of his physical needs, hires a responsible but strict babysitter, and says, “I love you” on occasion. Due to her highly demanding work schedule, mom is not around to give him feedback on his schoolwork, to go to parent-teacher conferences, to attend any of his sports games, or to take him out very often for bonding time. Do you think mom is “emotionally unavailable” or “emotionally neglectful”? Why or why not?
The mother is not being emotionally available because the sole role for a mother is to provide the foundation for unconditional love for a child by being around most of the time and attending some of their sporting activities so that they feel appreciated. The same parent cannot also understand her child well and will not be in a capacity to initiate any corrective measures. When a child is born and mother become unavailable and the same time no other loving adult’s steps in, it becomes painful to a child process and there is no coping mechanism to remedy this. Being just there is also not enough but the mother has to be emotionally available, mother care will also determine whether a child will have sleep when she goes to bed.
