Extract of sample "Direct Instruction"

There is a need for a strategic plan for a teacher when introducing a new concept to students. This is because by the end of the lesson, it is expected that the students should have learned a new concept and internalized it. In most cases, teachers spend a lot of time trying to introduce e a new concept in class not because what is being taught is lengthy, but because students have not comprehended what the teacher has taught. Application of the following factors sure as students apprehend included factors such as engagement of students while teaching, introducing every step chronologically, and introducing a small bit by bit.

Engagement of the students will make them alert and thus keen on what is being taught. Student participation in addition raises their understanding capacity of the new ideas.  This can also be used as a monitoring tool for the student’s ability to understand a given concept. The introduction of every step chronologically is very essential (Balzer, 2010). This is because mixing up concepts would cause confusion to students by the end of it all there may be not in a position to apprehend the concept. Lastly, introducing a small bit by bit will help the students to understand the new concept easily and first. This is because they have time to apprehend the small bit and then have a lecture on the next bit(Balzer, 2010). This is unlike being bombarded with the whole concept. Their mind might not be in a position to take up all that at a sitting.

In conclusion, all teachers need to follow the following steps when introducing a new concept to students. This will aid their understanding as well as high retention capacity of the newly learned concept. This will result in the good performance of the students; thus, increasing the knowledge among the student within a short duration of time.
