Extract of sample "Creative Problem Solving"

How to help Mira finally participate in the class? This calls for creative problem-solving. Ms. Aretti, the teacher, wants to help Mira become confident in class. But to build this confidence, she has to use her creative thinking in order to come out with a smart approach.

Dean’s stated that breaking through a mental block is more than just taking a break. Right now, Ms. Aretti has a mental block in short – she faces a blank canvas. She wants to help out Mira, but she cannot just come out with the right solution. Nevertheless, Incubation can help her. It is just about rest. When you take a break, you will come back with a fresher mind. After a moment of rest, you will look at the canvass with ideas visible in your eyes! You already have the hint. The solution is there right in your eyes. Psychologists say that taking a break, will not just freshen up your mind, but it will help your unconscious work towards a solution, as well. That is good news for Ms. Aretti! At times, we forget that our unconscious solves the problem for us – but it won’t work if we are tired if we are overwhelmed with ideas. Ms. Aretti needs to let her very nature work for her. This is true based on my experience. There were several times that I knew I had the solutions just before my eyes, but I couldn’t pull them out of my head – because I was overwhelmed with thoughts and possibilities. I knew there was something better; I just could not figure it out. After a moment of break, the solution was there, effortlessly, it just came out from my unconscious.

Moreover, another helpful approach that can help Ms. Aretti structures her creative solution to help out her student, Mira, to build her class confidence is Suspension of Judgment. I know that she has solutions playing on her mind at the time being, but it is not yet time to draw a decision. She has to do more experiments. She needs to wait for Mira’s responses on her current approaches. Helping Mira is about knowing her background. Does she call Mira on her desk for a personal talk? Sure, she drew a judgment about her – but holding it back can help her gather more facts about her student. Why she is very shy about participating in my class? She might ask further. Is it about her family background? A good question that would help her investigates more. Is she bullied by her classmates? Another question that would help her gathers more facts about Mira, and why she can’t voice out in class. There are several reasons unknown to her, making a judgment now would not be as effective as when she further awaits the revelation of facts about Mira’s response and attitude in her class.

Finally, Incubation and Suspended Judgment will be a perfect combination to help Ms. Aretti solves Mira’s problem – her shyness in her class. She needs to let her unconscious work towards a solution, and she needs to shed some more light on her student's attitudes in order that she can draw a well-structured solution to build Mira’s confidence.
