Organizational Psychology Program Supervisor August 16, Organizational Psychology Sinclair & Lips-Wiersma (2008) define leadership as a way of influencing other people towards achieving valuable and fulfilling ends. This definition is critical to the cultural industries that rely on creativity, and whose leadership needs establish a relationship with influential leadership. To enhance creativity among workers, it is important that a leader awakens and mobilizes people to find new, freer, and more meaningful ways of visualizing, working, and living.

This provides favourable conditions for workers in an organization to compete with their counterparts in other organizations. Equally important is the need for leaders in these industries to enhance generation of knowledge among workers by positively influencing them rather than treating them as means to ends. Additionally, cultural industries rely heavily on influential leadership to venture into new domestic and global markets. This definition has expanded my perception of leadership to a wider perspective.

I now understand that a leader does not necessarily need to arrive at intended destination and that leaders need not achieve what they start for them to be regarded as successful. The authors’ approach to leadership has also informed me that leaders need to pause, consult, and review the progress made towards attaining a predetermined goal. As Sinclair & Lips-Wiersma (2008) state, leaders should be keen not to be seduced by leadership and end up failing in their capacities. This results from a sense of superiority that develops when leaders view themselves as above their juniors.
