Forensic Psychology: Criminal Profile of The Clairemont Killer The local San Diego media dubbed Cleophus Prince Jr. the “Clairemont killer” as he stabbed six women to death. I believe Prince then was experiencing psychosexual disorder called piquerism and that is the reason behind him killing those women they way he did. For men with this disorder, killers focus on stabbing women on the breasts. They normally use knives, pins or any sharp objects to acts as a penis substitute whereby stabbing stands for sexual penetration.

In Prince’s case, he used knives to stab women on their chest areas around the breasts. This exemplifies his piquerism nature (Mariotte, 2010). Interviewing people who knew the “Clairemont killer” revealed that he had a sex obsession as he often bragged about relationships he had had with white women. However, no evidence showed what made him so angry to want to kill white women (Douglas & Olshaker, 2012). In my opinion, I think all his actions were due to the piquerism. It is very possible that his sexual encounters with white women that he was always bragging about were the murders since in his head, the knives were his penis and the stabbing was penetration.

After the murders, as perverted and gruesome as it sounds, he was actually satisfied sexually as he gained pleasure from the stabbing of white women. Earlier on, after just three exterminations, some women identified Prince and since he had signed his name in the weight room sign-in log, the police had to interrogate him. As it is expected, Prince denied everything. The fact that he refused fingerprinting shows he actually knew what he was doing. Police did not have any evidence to hold him and since he did not fit the FBI psychological profile, they let him go.

Moreover, it is very unusual for black men to be serial killers. The standard rule for serial killers is that they tend to murder along their own race (Mariotte, 2010). By that time, black serial killers crossing racial lines and murdering white women was unheard of. However, in some ways, Prince still fit the profile. Since the women were being killed were somehow associated with the gym, the killer had to be someone that lived around that gym. As it turned out, Prince lived in that same complex (Hickey, 2013).

When serial killers are being identified, techniques used by the offender to commit the crime (the MO) and elements not necessary for committing the crime yet the offender uses them to satisfy his/her emotional needs (the signature) are very important. Both are used in tracking the behavior of an offender. Prince had both as he had used knives to stab white women on their chest area (Mariotte, 2010). During Prince’s prosecution, it was important to have him prosecuted for all the six murders not just the one where there was DNA evidence.

Therefore, the prosecutors had to show the similarities that existed among his victims, their residences, proximity to Prince’s residence and his MO of committing the crimes.
