Career counseling is a professional and multidisciplinary activity that helps individuals deal with challenges in their career choices. Career counselors help an adolescent who wishes to explore career options, experienced practitioners contemplating to cchanginghange their career, parents seeking to work as well as individuals seeking employment. Career counseling can be in various settingsettings that include in groups or even individually, in person through the means of digital communication (Zunker, 2012).

In Taneka’s case, the underlying constraining factors to achieving post-secondary belief are merely issues like limited financial resources. In addition to the above sentiments, no one in her family has ever attended college. Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) explains that career choices are a factor in the developed beliefs of an individual. The theory refines through four main sources that include; the accomplishment of personal performance, vicarious learning, social persuasion, as well as physiological conditions and reactions. The manner in which these factors work is through a process by which an individual develops an attitude to a certain endeavor thus, meets success. The process rebuilds an individual’s self-efficacy or belief in continued success in the future based on this ability (Zunker, 2012). The SCCT best suit Taneka’s problem, as her problems range from previous successes to socio-economic status.

CounsellingCounseling is not all about identifying core issues and acquiring a different angle on problems and psychological difficulties. It is more of creating rapport and trust in a manner that the lient the client feels free to open up and air their worries. For the above to happen, the relationship between the counselor and the client must be relying on reciprocal trust. The counselor has to ensure a confidential and safe environment while offering empathy, comprehension, and respect (Saviscas, 2003). The relationship heavily depends on the counsellcounselor’sor’s tone and words chosen when you greet a client. Adequate time is necessary at this juncture, to allow the client to collect his thought and express his concerns. The act of giving them enough time ensures the client relaxes and freely talks.

A sensitive approach is key to maintaining the alreadalready-builty built relationship. Understanding the reluctant clients in opening up to certain issues is important. At this moment, it is important to offer reassurance, gen, fineness, and empathy to ensure clients are more comfortable in that counseling environment. It is only possible to engage the client when they feel sufficiently relaxed and comfortable (Saviscas, 2003). The use of questions that are open-ended serves as encouraging platforms for responses and thus should form the major segment of the counseling script.

Various controlled researchers imply that people cling to Implicit or unconscious assumptions that always influence their judgment. The above assumptions range from physical or social traits associated with gender, ethnicity, and race to those linked with various job descriptions, academic institutions, and study fields. The point to note is hat, in most studies in determining evaluation and gender, the evaluator’s sex was insignificant as both men and women share and utilized the same assumption. For instance, it is an assumption that men are argentic while women are communal (Perry, 2009). It is from such assumptions that an individual forms an attitude that a particular sex is more able to perform certain tasks compared to them. The results are usually moral breakdown and disbelief in one's abilities, thus, resulting in poor career choices and performances.

Ethical standards in career counseling are key as the counseling services result in profound impacts on client’s path of career, future, and life quality. In career counseling, ethics is more of an individual decision before enforced standards. Trust and credibility are components of adherence to individual ethics. Understating nd the lifestyle of the individual and the cultural beliefs, as well as traditions of the community of origin, is important. The above is due to the different beliefs exhibited by different communities. What is legal and ethically right in one community may not be right in the next neighboring community (Ernst, 2002). Thus, legal and ethical considerations are important.

Career counseling and consultations aim to provide a stress-free environment where individuals can pursue their careers without any form of interference. However, consultation and counseling programs often face challenges ranging from cultural to religious practices that may prevent one from seeking assistance (Ernst, 2002). For instance, the ancient communities believe that men are the superiors and any decisions affected by them, gender inequality. Women here are inferiors with no rights. Breaking the mindset of such individuals is hard as they were brought up believing in the teachings of their community. Another issue is that of racial discrimination in certain societies. The academic and career choices of individuals are greatly hampered by the existence of any form of discrimination. Success is dependent on the acknowledgment of oneness and the provision of equal responsibility to all.

Crises, emergencies, and disasters may also act against attaining good grades and affecting career choices. For instance, natural occurrences such as hurricanes and typhoons result in the destruction of property and learning institutions. The economy and the individual’s socioeconomic status of individuals are greatly affected. Other phenomena such as droughts and floods result in the massive displacement of individuals away from their designated learning institutions, thus interruption of learning progress (Ernst, 2002). In most severe instances, these crises may result in loss of life thus a major blow to the career planning and development sector.
