17 July Assignment Religion refers to the kind of faith that a person has in something, and the belief that he or she extracts out in the name of that very faith; According to the dictionary, religion refers to ‘the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.’ Millions of years ago, a number of religions came into existence and people all around the world attached themselves to whichever religion they felt was acceptable to them and brought them peace and harmony in their lives. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam are some of the main religions that are followed by people all around the world. All these faiths teach people how to believe in themselves and understand the true meaning of one’s existence on this planet. However, a person can always wonder, what is it like to create one’s own religion? This question comes in because of the idea that all the religions that people do follow today, have been set down and created by people who wanted to help others comprehend the meaning of living and the art of existence. This paper helps to provide an insight regarding how an individual might take to creating a religion of their own, as well as the kind of personal theological beliefs that I possess with respect to a religion of my own. Religion is the base of a cultural system that a human being follows and this very faith helps to provide him with a sense of assurance and security and helps to provide a meaning to his or her life. Religions help a man to soul search and understand the purpose of his own existence. They may consist of symbols of worship, doctrines and scriptures that consist of wisdom and regulations, as well as morality and ethics with respect to the law of nature and survival. If one thinks about it, many years ago, there was someone who thought about the kind of philosophy that a man must follow his life by and helped to gather followers with the help of a story that consisted of faith in the supernatural; human beings gain assurance by knowing that there is a higher power that exists somewhere in the universe so that whenever something goes wrong, they will be able to have someone to answer to, or have someone who is accountable to them for doing something or carrying out a specific action. Religion thus forms the base of a man’s faith and thinking and helps him to understand the meaning of life and all its subsidiaries. On a basic grass root level, it is easy for a person to ‘form’ a religion. All one has to do is to understand the meaning of life, and then write texts and scriptures in their own manner with a purpose of helping other people around them understand the same and help them gain knowledge and revelations regarding the very subject. One needs a vast number of followers and has to have an effect that might change someone’s life for the better and also help him live a happy and content life. If I were to create my own religion; it would consist of an amalgamation of thoughts from a number of aspects of life as well as various religions that people have been following since many years. My religion would be a part and combination of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, and others. The religion I personally follow is based on the principles of these various religions; thus I am not a firm believer in a particular religious faith. I have tried to read and understand as well as incorporate ideas from all these religions into my life and they have helped me a great deal to gain patience and tranquillity on the path to understanding what life is, and how it should be lived in order to gain the maximum happiness out of it. M religion would consist of scriptures written from all walks of life; it would be modern in nature in order for people to relate with it better. For example, if some aspect of Hinduism talks about giving yourself up for God, my religion would talk about how it is important for a human being to be able to learn the art of sacrificing; not for ‘God’ but for one’s self. My religion would help to teach people that they must stop putting blind faith on the mere idea of supernatural existence and understand that if there is a higher power, then that higher power is them. Every man is his own God, and thus he should not bow down to any other human being before recognising his own true potential. My religion would talk about the theory of infinity or the infinite circle that a human being is wrapped within. A circle is said to be the strongest geometrical shape because it has no start or end point and thus goes in a vicious cycle for eternity. Thus, the main idea of this would be that every human being is a part of that circle which will eventually become one. As the circle grows smaller with more and more people on it, people will move closer to each other and understand the purpose of not only their existence, but that of other people as well, and how it affects their existence as a whole. Rituals are said to be an important aspect of any religion. Every religion has its own beliefs and rituals that need to be carried out in order to achieve the maximum out of it. In my religion, I would want people to meditate and understand their spiritual selves. I would like for people to release and let go of all their inhibitions, their ego and reach into every uncomfortable zone and emerge victorious in the worst of situations, in their minds. The mind is the temple of a human being and must be tended to with care; thus every man must be able to meditate and understand his life on his own without being prompted by anyone else. I would urge people to carry out such acts of meditation on a daily basis and help them thus uncover the truth about their lives. I chose this project because it calls for heavy thinking and understanding the purpose of a person’s existence. The idea of religion itself is a very vastly talked about and heated topic of discussion for most people around the world; it is the only subject that helps to bring about the disparities that have been created between people ranging from various walks of life. Every religion has the same teachings and texts in a different manner. At the end of the day, they all talk about achieving an oneness with God, which ultimately means to achieve a sense of belonging and affiliation with one’s own mind and heart. This project has helped me a great deal in getting closer to my own religion as well, which is a combination of various religions, as discussed earlier within the confines of this paper. With the help of knowing so many areas of life, I have come to the conclusion that no one religion is greater than the other or talks about living life in a different manner. Every religion is somehow or the other related to another because of the simple reason that the amount of knowledge on this plane that we survive on is finite to an extent. If one refutes the argument by saying that information is infinite then I would like to put forth a point saying that eve infinite has a limit. Thus, every man is able to have ideas on the basis of faith and religion that are bound to coincide with another man’s ideas. Spirituality is a personal experiment that a man carries out with himself in order to be able to understand the reason for living. So it is better, I feel, to be able to listen to both sides, even if the religion is talking about the same thing, but in different ideas. What sets a man apart from another depends on the kind of choices that he makes in life. Thus, in conclusion, I would like to state that researching about this project has helped me open my eyes to the kind of faith that I earlier possessed within myself and towards other religions. I have been able to hypothetically create my own religion with the help of this project which has further assisted me in knowing the power of thinking and believing in one’s self. A man will only follow what he is able to understand and what is appealing to him; thus my religion would be one that helps everyone comprehend meaning and purpose along with something that helps them achieve a level of satiation and happiness.
