Star Wars and the Bible

As for Ankin, he applaud Jedi for selflessness when he says that he (Ankin) only care of others which remind one of Philippians 2:3-4 which warns “do nothing out of selfish ambition, but in humility consider others better than yourself,” Which according to Paul was the main attitude that Jesus exhibited during his time here on earth, and that he wanted us to replicate. We can also draw parallels between master Jedi qualities and those described in Galatians 5:22-23 concerning the fruit of the Holy Spirit. In this regard, we have qualities like; joy, kindness, love, faithfulness, self-control, gentleness and peace as the fruit of the Holy Spirit majority of which can be found in the character Master Jedi. Obi-Wan also exhibit traits that immortalize him in the memory of those that he leaves behind ultimately. First, his loyalty, dedication, knowledge and potential are legendary. These are virtues that we see in majority of characters in the Old Testament. Even after being conscripted into the radicalized Qui-Gon Jinn, he does not seem to lose objectivity and orthodox in his approach to issues. Yoda Qui-Gon Jinn on the other hand, is greatly revered despite being unconventional and maverick. Another incident in the movie that appears as if it has been replicated in the bible is Han Solo fall from grace, which reminds us of Adam and Eve fall from grace at the Garden of Eden. In the beginning we have Han Solo starting off as a smuggler and also showing his open skepticism to the Force. However, with time his skepticism withers significantly not because of any apparent reason but in order to save his friends who are in dire need of his assistance, something that prompt him to move closer into believing on the Force. This can also be seen in Anakin initial faithfulness which also withers considerably due to promises of immortality that he get from his friends, thereby making strides toward embracing the Force. Just as is the case with Han Solo, this particular development draws much from the Biblical creation story where both Adam and Eve fall from grace due to their disloyalty to themselves, and in the case of Adam and Eve, God. A common thread cutting across this movie is the overpowering power of evil which is increasingly seducing characters to depart from their Godly ways. Almost all character at one or the other finds themselves confronted by a desire to veer from the straight and narrow path that would be expected of them. In fact, majority of them fall by the wayside in such cases. The movie also appears to reiterate the need for repentance as a pre-requisite of redemption. In Vader’s road to redemption we see him turning from the Dark Side to the Good Side of the Force through destroying the Emperor (Lucas 1), which can be looked from the lenses of repenting in the Christian faith as dictated by the bible. Jedi can also be look on as representative of Christianity. This is because just as some people love Christianity others hate it with a passion which is the same case with Jedi. We also see him, Obi-wan and a number of characters making major mistakes despite having supernatural abilities. In this case, we have Obi-wan who is definitely not good to Ankin initially (Lucas 1), while we have Jedi ...Show more

Name: University: Course: Tutor: Date: Looking at the “Star Wars,” one cannot fail to see how closely resembling it is with the Bible. For instance, the original trilogy appears focused more on Jedi and the saving power of the Force’s Light Side. The Prequels on the other hand seems more focused on enticing power of the Dark Side which is consistent with the Biblical seductiveness of the evil…
