How Dalai Lama exemplifies the ultimate meaning of Buddhism in his life and works. Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. Buddhists believe that the Dalai Lamas embody the compassion; they are born on the earth to serve the people. Unlike their predecessors, Dalai Lama the XIV travels to the Eastern and Western countries. He has visited 41 countries and had meetings with politicians, clergy, artists and even businessmen. Wherever he spoke, he spoke about his belief in the unity of mankind, the sense of responsibility for the destiny of every person around the world.

Since the end of the 20th century, when the Dalai Lama XIV started travelling across the Western countries, he was followed by his fame of an outstanding scientist and a fighter for peace. His Holiness wrote 17 books on Buddhist philosophy and autobiographical essays, speeches and articles. In one of the books, the Dalai Lama XIV addresses to the problem of the drugs and tobacco danger for the everyday life and even spiritual practice from the standpoint of Buddhism. In the Encyclopedia Britannica it is written: "Despite his fame, he dispensed with much of the pomp surrounding his office, describing himself as a “simple Buddhist monk” (E.

Britannica). This statement refers to the principle of harmony - Share a common place of residence and share everyday concerns. If once I chance to meet a Dali Lama somewhere in the campus I would ask him how could he always stay so calm and restricted and be, at the same time, a very pleasant person with his heart open for the whole world. I would ask exactly this question because I’m interested in what are the true feelings of such great person as Dali Lama. Works cited Encyclopedia Britannica. Donald S. Lopez, Jr.
