The film shows a look at the unusual contest in which some talented children put their skills against others from around the world. The event happens every year when dozens of kids travel to a central place (Cairo in Egypt) to participate in the international Koran recitation contest. The contest welcomes children as little age as seven since they are judged on their ability to recite the Muslim holy from memory. Those children are also graded through the accuracy and their intonation of musicality (Koran by Heart n.d).

In this film, Barker tells the story of a three – to ten-year-old boy and girls who travel to join the competition. The three children dedicate most of their early years to memorising every word of the Quran even though they do not understand or speak Arabic the language used in writing the holy book (Koran by Heart, n.d).

The Quran recitations are practised throughout the Muslim world because they are a special auspicious during Ramadan. By conducting this event, the Muslims believe that this is the holy month when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (Koran By Heart, n.d).

The Muslim understands that each recitation is an act of divine revelation. The Muslims believe that this divine revelation is almost similar to the initial revelation by the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (Koran by Heart, n.d).

Since the religious text is judged on the memory and the intonation, therefore, this is just like singing a song. The concert is attended by young contestants and then their families offer a glimpse into the daily life of the broader Muslim world. Since the kids are as young as seven years old, they might not understand the issues about the world that surround them (Koran By Heart, n.d).
