Presented by Religion and theology Debates on religion and religious matter have been of discussion for a long time. Many scholars have contributed to the role of religion. The mixed feelings arise from the fact some support while other oppose the significance of religion in the society. The focus, with respect to this writing is a comparison of Robert Ingersol and Billy Graham. Religion has been significant in the society all through human generation. In particular, Christianity was prevalent before the 20th century where it was considered as the foundation of the society.

Role of religion started being questioned however in the 20th century as evident from the views of people such as Robert Ingersol. Through the views of people like Ingersol, the role of religion in society was questioned since some began to view it oppressive rather than a solace to humanity, as it originally was. Even though Ingersol does not expressly fight religion, he nonetheless does not view it as significant. He argues that humanity can live harmoniously if they followed true happiness and concern to each other.

Billy Graham unlike Ingersol sees religion and particularly Christianity as the pivot of humanity because it answers pertinent questions that mankind cannot answer. It also offers hope for people. The question of religion became so rampant and the views held by Ingersol and those of his school of thought would not have been given chance before the 1850 when religion and especially Christianity was highly viewed. However as time passed many more began to question religion and its ability to answer such things as human evolution.

This is specifically evident in the Scopes trial. Through this trial it became clear that many people began to question religion and as a result the government and strong supporters of religion sought to ensure that religious values are enshrined even if it meant passing laws. Significance of religion and particularly Christianity is seen through the role that Graham plated. He not only pushed for Christianity but also offered counsel to many presidents and this affirms the role and perception that the American societies have had over religion.

There has been debates tat the 20th century brought enlightenment and questioning of religion but through the efforts of people like Graham, there is clear attempt to salvage the significance of religion in society. Graham used his influence by ensuring that his ideologies were shared with the people who held the highest offices in the society.he offered counsel to presidents and this shows how influential he was and still remains. Despite the scepticism that many had over religion as demonstrated by Ingersol and people like him, the role of people like Graham in cementing religion cannot go unnoticed.

The belief system as portrayed through the views of Ingersol and Graham demonstrated the society’s overall view of religion. Even so most members of the society still hold religion with high esteem. Scepticism and cynicism over religion has not over showed the significance that of religion; at least, going by what has been discussed here in.
