The idea of God and by extension the soul of explaining the origin of the universe and the situation of man was found to be totally unconvincing by the old Buddhist thinkers (Faure, 2009, p. 38). Buddhist philosophers, through the centuries have formulated comprehensive arguments dismissing the creator god doctrine. It is for this reason that Buddhism has sometimes been referred as an atheistic teaching. It is described as atheistic because it denies the existence of omnipotent, eternal God who is the ordainer and creator of the world (Thera, 2008, p. 3).
