Controversies on School Uniform The current debates about uniforms has confirmed to be an extremely complex question in most countries. Surprisingly, the debates on uniforms mostly touches on the rooted philosophy ideologies other than the serious educational research. The notion about school uniforms is an increasing issue to both the parents and children. The act of children going to school displays a great experience in the world away from home. In the early days, the mode of clothing in schools was not a huge concern like it is in the contemporary world.

It was the responsibility of the parents or the school to choose the attire to be worn by their children. But in the recent days, children have had the tendency of being extremely careful about their mode of clothing. This gives a reflection on the modern standards and the interest that adults have on clothes. With the absence of pressures that come along with age and experiences, children can turn out to be more obsessed with their mode of clothing (Abhiyan). At this point therefore, children who come to school wearing unfashionable clothes tend to receive teases and are bullied by their friends.

The costs of the fashionable clothes and the associated conflicts, made most schools and parents to agitate for school uniforms. But this issue has continued to raise controversies where some students and their parents claim that it is a form of infringement pertaining to the first amended rights. They claim that, the wearing of uniforms stifled their sense of individuality. Students that were normally used to having a broad choice of outfits were now narrowed to keeping their attire simple.

I tend to believe that, children have got various ways in which they can easily express their feelings. This can be done by using the personal traits (Catalanello). In most schools, the decision to introduce uniforms rose due to the emerging concern based on gang colors where young girls started wearing clothes that were considered extremely sexy for the seven or eight graders. The introduction of uniforms therefore, has gone far in eliminating the social concerns and the various distractions that affects children in their academics.

Even though the introduction of uniforms resulted to much controversy to both parents and children, reduction in gang activities, sexual attacks and violent action among children have been witnessed (Angelfire). After the introduction of uniforms in school, there are no more morning confusions. This was reported by the parents whose children attend schools with uniform rules. Most parents therefore, gave feedback on their take on uniform introduction in schools indicating that they no longer suffer from the usual morning debates with their children over “what to wear” (HBC-SU).

Some of the students in most schools had turned schools into fashion shows. Research done on uniform introduction in schools have indicated that, most students happen to spend much of their quality time making selections on their wardrobe other than concentrating on their home works (Abhiyan). Other than some few complains that are aired on the debates concerning school uniforms, which regard to costs, I opt to support the uniform introduction in schools. Additionally, school uniforms enables easy identification of the students and the school that they attend.

This has significantly augmented the students’ safety. It is through uniforms that one is able to make a distinction on who belong to which campus. Regrettably, this is a subject that has resulted into increasing concerns in the contemporary world. I therefore, believe that the arguments in these articles are adequately persuasive, that uniforms have brought about equality in schools and no one can easily tell who comes from either rich or poor families (HBC-SU).Works citedAbhiyan,Sarva.
