Doctors will make such recommendations in order to satiate parents and relatives who are desperate to use any methods to preserve the life of their fading patient. This means that the proposed prescriptions may lengthen the life of the patient, but will not preserve his or her life. If the family, in such cases, was more receptive to the idea of euthanasia, there would have been the possibility that a lot of money would have been saved. Euthanasia saves on social costs of terminal care. It is a recognized fact that the families of terminally ill children are the ones that are expected to care for them.

The notion of providing unselfish care, even if for years, is ingrained into almost all societies in the world. Families will stick to these accepted norms concerning the continuity of care in order to avoid social stigma and negative gossip, which can ruin carefully built reputations. In this scenario, it is not unusual for the utilization of medical therapies that are meant to prolong life causing the emergence of ‘post intensive care syndrome family (Russell and Gafford, 517). Different people deal with the pressure of taking care of terminally sick children and relatives in different ways.

Some simply flee their responsibilities by leaving them in institutions or more accepting relations who will provide the emotional support that is required by the patient. Others strive to render different types of support for the sick child, even at the cost of their own mental health. It would be less painful on the family and relatives if they accepted that no treatments will return the health of the sick person, and even consider options such as euthanasia if they are suggested by the patient as well as the doctors.

Euthanasia can actually be a viable solution because it saves the patient from additional pain. Where terminal illnesses are concerned, there comes a time where even the family members recognize that the therapies
