They also argue that expansion of prisons is a real waste of money and has no impact in a reduction of crime. The direct approach to crime by conservatives is a reflection of their ideology. The party beliefs that there should be laws and programs that are meant not to encourage crime in society. Moreover, the party beliefs increased spending is paramount in addressing challenges facing society and hence more fund for construction of prison facilities. On the other hand, the liberal approach to tackling crime is related to their beliefs that all people should enjoy some freedom. Hence, they are against blanket condemnation of those that get involved in crime. The liberal, therefore, calls for evidence-based way of resolving crime. The researcher of this paper endeavors to tackle two of the five political parties in Canada and to determine and compare the ideologies of the two chose political parties. The ideology of both political parties will be given consideration in this paper along with their similarities and differences.
There may be shortcomings; yet its advocates believe that they are of little significance and do not pose a threat to the stability enjoyed by the country today. Thomas Magstadt asserts that continuity is ensured by the system itself, “as the two major parties keep to the middle of the road to appeal to a broad range of middle-class interests,”3 hence the preservation of political and governmental stability.
A national political party that desires to gain power must have a certain propensity to tend to the most fundamental values of it's citizens while representing the entire population as best as possible. Since humans hold diverse and convoluted ideological thoughts, and political parties represent citizens, then it can be concluded with some certainty that there should also be numerous distinguishable political parties representing these intricate ideologies.
(Bogdanor, 2006) The Conservative Party in the UK also had 2,800,000 individual members in the early part of 1950. Membership in political parties have however dwindled steadily over the years. By 1975 for example, membership of the Conservative Party had reduced from 2,800,000 to 1,500,000.
During the period 1945 to 1984, the Liberals were the usual governing party, the Conservatives the usual opposition, and the New Democratic Party the third party, and the election results of these parties support this view. In the recent times, the New Democratic Party has grown more like the two old parties and it has now become more success-oriented and less ideologically committed.
