My Credo Essay My Credo Essay My credo is that I believe in family and in the true joy that is caused when a family laughs together, the right to love, the importance of each occasion in our lives, the gift of second chances and that the importance of truth in our lives can never be overemphasized. To never let it go (Cajon Valley, 2010). By observing any great and towering building, it becomes possible for us to see exactly why it is necessary to have what is a strong foundation, something that we can be able to build off from and a starting point that we can be able to grow from. Although we might not always be able be in a position to see the foundations of grand skyscrapers, we know that there has to be one because without it, the tall skyscraper would collapse when faced with the smallest gust of wind. For me, my family is essentially this foundation, it is my biggest supporter when I need to be encouraged and assured, and it is where I run to when things do not work out and I feel insecure. Family is of great importance and has an influence on the individuals we turn out to be, we cannot hide our true feelings from our families as they can always see right through us. My family has been instrumental in teaching me how to relate and interact with others. From my family, I have managed to gain a number of strong role models, ranging from my father who is always strong in the face of any calamity and never runs away from bravely confronting any challenges in life, to my grandmother whose special brand of affection is truly one of life’s greatest treasures, my small sister whose openness and vivacity is quite infectious to my mother endless love that we constantly draw upon. There is nothing as good as the joy that is shared all round when a family sits down to enjoy each other’s company and laugh together. At times families do tend to experience difficulties that cause them to close ranks and cry, but this is ultimately overshadowed by the certain morning that is sure to eventually breakout as the family overcomes the challenges in their paths and are able to once again able to enjoy the joy of sunshine after a dark moment and laugh together. My family comforts and helps me to deal with life’s challenges; whether it is something as relatively small as not finding a favorite pair of shoes to wear when I want to go out, or something as monumental as the cold touch of death. I go through life with the quite assurance that in the face of calamities and challenging situations, I can always look up to my family for support and encouragement (Campbell, 2013). I do not have to pay for expensive counseling sessions, all I ever need is a little love from my family and suddenly strong and everything seems to be right even when it is really not. I believe in my family granting me the right to love, life is too short for one to go through it without the simple joys and pleasures of love. When we were kids, I still remember that we would always look forward to the regular camping trips that my father took us on. Looking back at it, I can almost smell the wood smoke around the camp fire and hear my father’s deep voice booming in the night intermingled with the sounds of the nights such as the deep hooting of invisible owls that we never saw and the soothing chirping of crickets as he told us story after story. We would all look at him expectantly not wanting the stories to eventually end. My mother would lean on my father’s shoulder, eyes closed and with a dreamy expression on her face and smile wherever a joke was told. These experiences taught me to love, to love my family, nature and life’s simple moments. I believe in experiencing different interesting occasions in our lives. Good occasions serve to reassure us on the goodness of live while tough occasions essentially prepare us by toughening us for the challenges ahead. Life is strewn with numerous lessons that are important for us to learn. Some life experiences such as supporting a family member struggling with the ravages of cancer or supporting a given family member in the middle of what is a tough time always serve to reassure me on the goodness of humanity. Even though we all have to live through these tough challenges, the constant assurance that my family is there for me makes it all the more easy for me to live through them. As with all things, I find myself looking forward to uplifting occasions in life such as the joy that we evidently enjoy when we celebrate each other’s birthdays, attend a family member’s wedding ceremony or simply bunch together into a new car, muddy and strew its interior with potato chips on its first trip around the neighborhood. It is the love of these occasions that makes me realize that the diversities of life are what make it interesting, and all the more enjoyable when we get to experience these occasions with those we love. I believe in families teaching the value of truth, as I progressively grow older, I remain eternally grateful of how my family raised me up to value truth, to never compromise on it and never let it go. The need to be truthful has always been stressed upon by my parents even when we were in definite danger of getting into trouble. In my interaction with people, I have come to realize that indeed, the value of this virtue has generally been overlooked as people increasingly get lost in the belief that little white lies do not generally cause any great harm. I find that I am indeed a much better person when I strive to always be truthful around others (Nyberg, 1993). Conclusion Many people believe that it is their right to get to enjoy a perfect life, to get to go through life without experiencing any challenges or negative situations or to never ever have to cry. However, it is my belief that all these experiences and challenges are necessary in life as they help to mould us and with the support of our families, we are able to persevere and emerge all the more stronger. My family is responsible for having made me who I am today; the strong relationships that I have established have made me a confident individual who is not afraid of facing life straight on. I am indeed lucky for the family I happen to have; I have laughed with my family, learned from my family and grown older with my family and it is essentially the most important thing in my life.
