owever, sports governing bodies have come up with elaborate policies that will govern ethical sporting activism which are free of doping of any form of performance enhancement.
In addition, the article also touches on the issue of the sanctions the players were handed according to the set laws which correlates with justice and law sections learnt in class (Derse & Wilson, 2001). Despite elaborate rules and regulations being in place, athletes who do not use doping means are prone to unfair disadvantages from their colleagues who embrace biotechnological means to boost performance as the culprits of doping sometimes walks scot-free even after testing positive of the prohibited drugs. This leaves the sporting fraternity with morality and justice questions of whether the field is adequately safeguarded (Derse & Wilson, 2001).1
The point of contention in this article is whether justice prevailed in the case concerning players from the Sharks team. This is despite having tested positive from a drug that is banned in the sporting fraternity they were handed sanctions that were later reduced on the pretext of the players being duped into using the drugs. The anti-doping laws clearly state that any athlete will be liable for any use of drugs whether he/she took them voluntarily, without knowledge or out of ignorance. Hence, no matter the situation an athlete has a personal liability for whatever he/she ingest into his/her body (Derse & Wilson, 2001). The Sharks players claimed their team doctor duped them into taking the drugs as they were advised that the drugs were okay.
Therefore, in this case, ignorance of the safety of the drugs has no defence as it was the duty of the players to perform due diligence research to ensure whatever they ingested does not affect their health or fall under the drugs that are prohibited in sporting activities. In a turn of events, the doping council went ahead and reduced the sanctions that the players were slapped with on the pretext
