Lecturer Essay # Western Muslims: Issues & Concerns In this interview, Hamza Yusuf delves into the important issue of freedoms. In video 4, between minute 3.30 and 4.30, he argues that although America appears to be a society that promotes freedom, this freedom is actually limited. For instance, at minute 6.30 of the same video, he points out how people’s phones are tapped, thereby limiting their freedoms. The issue of freedoms is an important one because it is the only tool that allows people to pursue happiness and live to their full potential.

Through freedom, creativity is enhanced and the general quality of life is improved. This is what makes freedom important. Freedom relates to the idea of bringing benefits to the individual and society because it allows people to explore opportunities aimed at improving their lives. Freedom involves issues such as political freedom, transparency, security and social opportunities. Without freedom, it becomes difficult for an individual to pursue happiness and obtain any benefits from the society.
