Reflection Reflection Honesty Being honest entail telling other people surrounding you what actually happens so that they do notreceive wrong information. It assists in maintaining integrity of the leader in work area as he or she maintains the real answers. Honesty in leadership provides guidance to junior workers or those in lower ranks a model for trust. It also helps in communicating what the leader think and become open to other employees. Honesty may involve ability to listen to others and share openly on one’s opinion. In workplace or organization, honesty is applicable in improving trust among employees, which in turn improve performance. Sharing ideas in an honest way in the workplace provide opportunity for employees to give information that helps in better working environment. Working as a leader with my friends in organizing a function, I lied about better rewards after doing the task. The truth came out later and I lost trust of those I had worked with in organizing the function. Using honesty in workplace is important in achieving optimum working environment. Humility In as much as we like to show our achievements and sometimes commanding, being a humble leader is very important in relating to other. Humility will ensure other people in junior ranks do not feel intimidated be the leader’s presence. A humble leader will provide opportunity for other junior members to approach him/her easily and freely discuss any arising problems. Provision of such opportunity will ensure decisions made with best interest for all. Humility forms vital part in relations of workers or members in an organization. Leaders or employees who are arrogant have hard time in relating to fellow employees or juniors. This limits discussions and sharing of ideas to make workplace better. Being a humble leader helps in gaining respect but not fear from juniors. Humble leaders also accept mistakes if they have committed one and do not blame others. Fairness This involves choosing what is right to even if it does not favor those close to the leader. Fairness shows the quality of a leader who can deal with those who like them and those who do not like them. In fairness, the leader follows the rules and set example to any person looking up to him/her. This strength sets example and shows how to follow organization rules to benefit everyone. This character strength is very important in making decisions that affect people around. It involves giving every person equal chances in development in the work area that in turn motivate employees to work hard. Unfair treatment of employees leads to poor performance and division in workplace or in organization. This character strength is also vital equitable distribution of organization resources that motivate employees. Bravery This is an act of having courage taking risks for personal benefit and that of others. This strength is used by leaders in taking step in situation that others may have not attempted before because of the risk. It raises faith in a leader by those looking up to the leader for guidance. It also involves accepting responsibilities in tough situations that most people would dodge. The leader should embrace challenges and difficulties in learning how to deal with them. Courageous taking of challenges in work environment is important in developing new ways to deal with them. Incorporation of this character strength is vital for growth of the organization and improvement of working environment. Failing to take a risky opportunity in work are causes lack of improvement in the work environment and organization performance at large. Teamwork This involves working as a group with each individual having personal objective that when combined leads to achievement of the organization’s goal. As a leader, this character strength is important in showing how working together as a group can lead to achievement of organization goal. Leaders should participate in such group to encourage and unite other workers in working together. There is need to use strength in workplace as it is important in bringing together different ideas from employees to achieve group objectives. It is also important in strengthening relationship among employees as they learn from one another. The strength elaborates importance of working together as a group as opposed to working alone. Watching how scientist work together in discovery of things in documentary made me think it is the best way to work. 2 Concept of synergy in work are and relation of people meant model of working together that creates greater return compared to sum of individual return. For an individual to work with other, he/she must have character qualities that enable him/her to relate with others effectively. According to Stephen Covey (Stephen 2013), our destiny starts from thought then action to habit, character and finally destiny in a sequential manner. In his book, he mainly talks about habits that involve interdependence and continuous improvements in workplaces. Honesty will make other employees have trust in whatever I say or do that improves relation in working together. Humility will enable proper and professional relationship with other workmates hence ensuring no intimidation or others being inferior. Fairness will promote equitable distribution of opportunities and resource. Bravery ensures improvement in workplace while teamwork leads to better results than sum of individual work. All the characters lead to improved relationship among workmates ensuring better results and improved working environment. Combining these characters of being honest, humble, fair, brave and a team player form part of strengths to be a great leader. Honesty and humility improves the discussion with lower ranked employees to know many problems that may be arising. Being humble also provides great ability to listen and understand other at personal level that leaders need to motivate other that look up to them. Fairness gives opportunity to most suitable which enable general growth. Bravery is important in taking first step to show others direction and avoiding blame on others. This enables the leader to take responsibility of the outcome of the adventures. Embracing teamwork as a leader guarantees higher productive level from the same labor force.
