Women’s Work and Globalized Introduction Recent research shows that women preferred to seek for employment globalized fields such as the engineering sectors. In this sector, some could work as full engineers while others could work as technicians. Some of the technical fields where women sought the job opportunities are chemical, metallurgical, and other related industries1. However, there is a hope a hope that many women will be seeking employment opportunities in high globalized field as time changes day by day. The reason behind this phenomenon is because of the introduction of modern technology that ensures that women are able to work. In this case, the women find themselves able to cope well with the challenges that come with the globalization and the women’s work in the workplaces. As a result, more and more women should seek the available employment in the technologic areas applied areas instead of leaving them only to men as it has always been there before Significance Of Globalization To Women In The Workplace Globalization to women in the workplace currently witnessed in various sectors of the employment sectors in the world. Today many women take very complicated courses that initially were for men. For instance, areas such as engineering, medicine, chemistry, and physics used to be for men. However, the trend today is remarkable since it is women who form the best engineers, doctors, and scientist when compared to men. 1Auster, Carol J. 2014. 'An Interdisciplinary, Multi-Level, Cross-Cultural Analysis Of Globalization, Womenâ Work, And So Much More'. Sex Roles.83 2ibd86 Despite the social changes that are also there to influence the globalization trends among the women in the workplaces, the trend of the invention of modern technologies encounters them. The invention of computers today makes it entirely possible for the women where they can work in an organization as clerks, receptionist, secretaries, and other positions that men do ignore or refuse to take. As such technology becomes useful to women in working with to an organization in such work sectors Countries such as Japan and Italy today have most of their women playing the greatest role in globalization issues due to employment. In these countries, women begin to start embracing the use of technology as early as their childhood status. When they become fully grown up, they can effectively use the various forms of technology which, in this case, promotes the globalization trends in the world. Despite the presence of discrimination that may come due gender and also the political influences that there may be in a particular country. Women are however in this adapt to such challenges and deliver their best in most industries. Women in such situations need the natural support from the rights organizations so that they get the equal employment as men 3DeNicola, Alicia. 2008. 'The Gender Of Globalization: Women Navigating Cultural And Economic Marginalities. By Nandini Gunewardena And Ann Kingsolver'. Anthropology Of Work Review78 4ibd79 The trend in most developing countries today is for the demand for woman labor. The reason behind the occurrence of this pattern is that men today, become very choosy and also require a lot of pay as compared to men in most of the opportunities relating to technology. As such many companies prefer the employment of women since the majority of these women do accept what they offered to them in the table. There is also need to balance gender disparity that exists in workplaces so that women can also get their chances in such fields Lastly, there are some fields that cannot prosper without the presence of women. Areas such as medicine need women who can attend the needs of female clients who may report for treatment from the nurses. As a result, women, in this case, will be in a better condition to handle their issues much better as compared to in the same capacity Situations of Employees at Their Workplaces Indeed, there are reasons for the presence of the work-home conflict. Conflict occurs when the person spends the time focusing on one role that makes it harder to satisfy the needs of the other roles. Moreover, there are stresses caused by one of the roles that might affect the performance of the other role. 5Genosko, Gary. 2005. 'Tangled Routes: Women, Work, And Globalization On The Tomato Trail:Tangled Routes: Women, Work, And Globalization On The Tomato 5Trail'.103 6ibd107 Conflict at workplace exists in two types which are work to family conflict and family to work conflict. The first type of conflict where the time is being spent more on work issue and more pressure and demands from the work that may affect the responsibility that the person need to do at home. However, in both conflicts there will be less family and job satisfaction. Conflict due to family and wok does come from the situation whereby one finds it hard to balance the job requirements and the family duties. As such the person may not be able to deliver well in the workplace due to family demand issues. The essence of work-family conflict is that it has some negative consequences that accompany it. For instance, occupational burnout, intentions to leave the job due to pressure, stress while at work and also some cases of health complications that may lead to the workers decrease in production output. Advantages of Globalization In The Workplace The presence of modern technology enhances the speed in doing so many tasks in the organization, beforeit was slow and also take large space. Similarly, the issues coming out from this fact are the fastest spread of globalization women in their workplaces Globalization enhances the up to date of the system of activities that an organization has all the time. For instance use of some software help in updating of accounting problems that makes it efficient for the company to assess the stored data with ease 7 Genosko, Gary. 2005. 'Tangled Routes: Women, Work, And Globalization On The Tomato Trail:Tangled Routes: Women, Work, And Globalization On The Tomato Trail'. Gastronomica109 In addition, globalization in the workplace also enhances quality production unlike manual means that do not result in the production of the presentable products to the customers Disadvantages of Globalization the Workplace Globalization while at work, today facilitates wastage of time among the employees at the workplace. Most of them concentrate so much on social issues such as face book, twitter, and many others by use of the computers. As such, the organization loses so much at during such occasions the employees don’t work but enjoy themselves through visiting such sites for interacting with their friends The cost acquiring a modern technology that is also efficient is too expensive for most of the organizations. Women may not access such implements when employed in small organizations that also do not have the necessary capital to buy them. Some forms of globalization trends are always complicated to use. As a result, the organization has to employ the specialist who can handle them and also repair them in the case of breakage. Presence of globalization is also other ways of enhancing globalization amongst women. As such, the organization has to spend more 8 Kamla, Rania. 2012. 'Syrian Women Accountants’ Attitudes And Experiences At Work In The Context Of Globalization'. Accounting, Organizations And Society .105 9Ibd109 Women And Absenteeism From Work Due to family and home matters, in 1998, for instance, 4% of women did not report for work, and such worked less. The cause could have been due to illness, injury or other related reasons. However, the primary cause of the reason could be due to illness since it is unavoidable. In the coming future, there is an expectation that more and more women will avoid absenteeism from work because of the incorporation of the globalization issues. Responsibilities Of The Employers Employers have the challenge to provide family friendly working conditions that will enable the women to work and appreciate the value of globalization within the workplace. The provisions should also provide for flexibility in the issues of child and the elderly cares. From the reduction of the bills that accrue from the cases of ensuring the safety of the family, the inception of globalization as a requirement for the performance of work duties. The use of the smart houses makes it easy for their monitoring and also for the regulation of the energy used in such houses. Police are also able to track down the occurrence of criminal activities that may take place in such houses or other incidents such as fire that, in this case, make life more comfortable 9Lechner, Frank J, and John Boli.. The Globalization Reader. (Chichester, West Sussex: J. Wiley & Sons, 2012).76 10ibd85 Discussion and Analysis In the UK, more women entered employment in the last 30 years. Statistics has shown an increase in the rate of working young mothers who have young children (preschool). Moreover, the number of working hours has increased for both parents. However, the study showed that women have showed a greater increase. About 83% of employees face problem with transportation especially the transports which serve complex journey with multiple purposes consider to be time-consuming. To get from home to work, it will also include time needed to drop off or pick up children from school. It may also include stopping at supermarkets for shopping on the way home. Moreover, 29% of parents reported that they don't receive any extra help for home responsibilities whereas quarter of the sample gets help once a week and none of the participants have daily help. Home responsibilities are going towards mothers more than fathers. The responsibilities consist of picking up and drop off the children at school, supermarket for groceries and also do other cleaning and organizing stuff. Both parents need to balance and manage their lives to prevent any homework crossover as possible. He ran a study to find out the effect of technology (such as telephone and emails) on parents and to what extent they can separate work and home from each others. The study has shown that men are more confident in using work resources for personal use than women. The study showed that 58% of parents need to take care of domestic tasks from their work. 12Moghadam, Valentine M, Suzanne Franzway, and Mary Margaret Fonow. 2011. Making Globalization Work For Women.p45 12ibdb 67 However, only 21% agreed on the use of the internet at work for personal use such as buying groceries, furniture, or other household goods. In addition, 65% of women reported using the work telephone to manage domestic affairs. Such cases are children’s sporting activities, school arrangements, dental and GPs appointments, holiday arrangements and solving bank issues such as paying the bills Women allow home to affect work but they are so strict about allowing work to invade the home. However, Beech and his colleagues found that homework crossover is depending to some extent on the companies’ policies and the restriction against the use of work technology for home use. Parents need more flexible ways of managing their demands especially for women who take care of most of the domestic activities. 95% of the tested sample used their desktop computers as the most popular form of computers. It follows with 40% for laptops, however over 45% of users agreed that they use two different devices for home and work. The study also investigates the use of organizing and reminding tools associated with time management. It has been found that 50% of participants use an electronic diary even on their mobile phones or personal laptops. Women use their mobile phones more than men. Women use dairies more for home purposes where men use it for work purposes. Moreover, the study showed that only 23% of participants preferred to keep technology devices completely separated. However, the majority 77% allows some flexibility for home and work the crossover in term of using technology devices. 13Moghadam, Valentine M, Suzanne Franzway, and Mary Margaret Fonow. p.75 Recommendations Women should remove the perception that used in the before that there were specific jobs that only men could do. In this instance, they should remove their negative view of the globalization related jobs as those that only men have the drive to do better when compared to them More and more institutions should come up that can or will be able to absorb many women into carries that lead women in doing jobs that relate to technology. Such instructions should have the teaching aids that will make women appreciate the need of the technology in the workplaces. Within the employment workplaces, the employers should set up guiding and counseling departments that can offer emotional counseling and encouragements on the need to appreciate the importance of technology at workplaces. In addition, the employers should consider purchasing the modern technology equipments that can make women appreciate their importance in the workplace. While recruiting of employees by an organization, the team should consider hiring the same number of genders so as to balance the completion in the available areas that relate to the use of technology in the organization. 14Sucking Salt: Caribbean Women Writers, Migration, And Survival; Caribbean Women Writers And Globalization: Fictions Of Independence'. 2008. American Literature. 183 Conclusion For the purposes of realizing the importance of the globalization trends among the women in their workplaces, employers need to ensure equitable employment opportunities for the men and women. In this instance, women would find space to compete equally with men in the available opportunities to employtechnology at the organization. In the end, these women would surely appreciate the value of technology among them. Bibliographies Auster, Carol J. 2014.
