Discrimination is defined as a certain treatment that is conducted to a certain group or individual. Hispanic discrimination in essence has plagued the country and is one of the most pivotal issues that must to be addressed. The Hispanic population of America including native and foreign born individuals increased from 50 percent from 2000 to 2011, bringing the total Hispanic persons close to 52 million in 2011. This startling fact is crucial to understand the fact that Hispanics are a growing population. In fact that by 2050, one-third of population will be composed of Hispanics in America as reported by Fox News Latino . Clearly, this issue goes further beyond legislation as the public holds strong anti-Hispanic beliefs. ADL National Director of public relations, Abraham H. Foxman, is concerned about this issue as he states, “We are greatly concerned that many of the gains we had seen in building a more tolerant and accepting America have not taken hold as firmly as we had hoped, and have to some degree been reversed…"While there are many factors at play, all of the evidence suggests that a strong undercurrent of Hispanic hatred persists in America." One of the most pivotal points of observation is poverty that plagues society. According to conducive research, it is evident that poverty continues to be a lingering factor in almost all countries. Poverty is the state of condition that most nations have continued to suffer for centuries. Majority of Hispanics come to America because they have been oppressed and had their rights snatched. In fact, more than 20 percent of Hispanic females under the age of 18 live below. For majority of Hispanics, America continues to be the “land of opportunity.” Hispanics often come from a poor background or an oppressed country and seek to make themselves out of the current circumstances. However, they are faced with many adversities as racism continues to plague their vision. Many Hispanics struggle to assimilate to the American societies because of a culture shock. For instance, many Hispanics struggle to speak American English and often settle for labor jobs. This also leads to abuse, minimum wage, and violation of work standards. In fact, I have witnessed discrimination first hand that truly shocked me. Many Hispanics lack speaking skills due to lack of assimilation, but that does not diminish their work ethic. As a matter of fact, 22% of Hispanics face discrimination on a regular basis. Furthermore, Hispanic females earn roughly 54 cents for every dollar than their white counterparts. This type of discrimination is not only prevalent in financial terms, but is dominant with the attitudes of employees. The worst issue that the American society is currently facing is the fact that some states are extremely clear about discrimination in their respective state. This can be witnessed in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California; it is it legal to discriminate against English-speaking job seekers?  As a matter of fact, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission should be responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicants. Although the EOCC has looked into this issue, it has been a lingering issue that has plagued the work force.
