Unfortunately, Stavi who does not have health insurance gets three fingers chopped off in a lawn-mower accident (Murray). This means that he needs $28,000 for reconstructive surgery within two weeks. Steve’s uncle Gary comes up with the brilliant idea to fix this money problem as well as the $40,000 debt that he owes for gambling. The idea involves fixing the Special Olympics taking place at San Marcos, Texas by entering Steve as a Jeffy Dahmor, an energetic young man with learning difficulties. The plan is to bet $100,000 that the reigning champion will not win the Olympics ("The Ringer Review"). 2. Twist Everything goes according to plan until the other contenders realize that Steve is faking (Murray). The unexpected occurrence of Steve falling in love with Lynn (Heigl), a volunteer at the Olympics also threatens to lead to failure of the plan. However, the hatred the contestants have for the champion Jimmy makes the other contestants help Steve to try and defeat Jimmy. However, Steve comes in third with jimmy second and Glen winning the race. This means that the bet is won and the money is available for the surgery. Steve wants to participate in a race in their Olympics. The idea is that his participation in the race will tip the scale and fix it so that Gary wins a bet (Murray). To the audience, Steve’s participation in the race will see an obvious win for him. However, this is not the case as Steve comes in third even after getting help from the other contestants who dislike jimmy due to his egotistical nature ("The Ringer Review"). This serves to promote the idea that persons with disabilities are able to do things like any other human and negate from the misconception that they are at a great disadvantage. This calls for the promotion of the rights persons with disabilities in society. b) Unity The film brings out the view that persons with disabilities are a united group. This first comes out in the scale of the Special Olympics, which is a large and colorful affair with persons with a wide range of disabilities. The fact that this colorful affair is organized for the group shows that they have a wide support network that links them to participate in an event of this scale ("The Ringer Review"). This gains support from the magnitude of the turnout which portrays that most persons with disabilities think of themselves as people who are able to do regular things and participate in activities like the Olympics just like anyone else. Their unity portrayal is also in the unity of the other contestants to rally against a common enemy. Even after the six contestants find out that Steve is a fake, they do not rat him out instead opting to use him fight Jimmy (Murray). As a result, they do not want to see him win. The six unite behind Steve to fight the common enemy, Jimmy, through helping Steve win. This ...Show more

The setting is the death row of Coal Mountain Prison in Louisiana during 1935; the supervisor, Paul Edgecomb (played by Tom Hanks), has several assistants.
