Introduction Globalisation is simply spreading of particular philosophies, ideas, technology and governance all over the world. All countries becomeone unit and they are all governed by the same set of rules. The concept of international governance came in to fight poverty, war among countries, environmental degradation and to set up equal opportunities for everyone in all countries. The call to fight particular deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS and cancer has made many countries to come together to ensure that a cure is established to save lives. Development on the other hand is ensuring that a nation has the adequate economic, social and cultural levels. Global development basically means that all countries all over the world have the same and abundant economic, social and cultural levels. It is meant to simply fight poverty and other social evils like child abuse and human rights abuse too. Agency to be credited and its history Very many organisations have been formed to ensure that the global development strategies are implemented. The United Nations is one of the most common agencies that are recognised all over the world in ensuring that global development is reached. The united nation is made up of 192 member countries. All the members are expected to be peace loving countries to sign the treaty. The United Nations begun in 1942 when the president of Franklin Roosevelt brought together 26 countries that signed a treaty to fight against communism during the Second World War II. Since then the membership has increased to date and the main aim now is to fight global poverty and enhance global development. It has different offices in the member countries to ensure that the countries abide by the regulations they set when they meet annually for conferences (Richard, 2004). Global Development The united nation has played a big role in enhancing the global development especially in the developing countries which are mostly African countries. The resent cry for implementation of the millennium goals is one of the most influential strategies the organisation has had in promoting global development. For this purpose all countries that are members of the United Nations are expected to adapt to the millennium development goals. The millennium development goals are to be met by 2015 by every country that signed to the implementations of the goals. In fighting poverty, the goals are also meant to reduce the rates at which individuals are suffering from deadly diseases like tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS. The main goals of reducing the spread of such infections are by educating the general public on the preventive measures. Since the implementations are very expensive, then the developing countries have received funds to ensure that awareness of such diseases is spread to all people. It has been on the forefront in sponsoring the events to educate people on the preventive measures from such diseases. By educating people the numbers of people dying from such diseases have decreased over the years. People have become very cautious of their health status and they are ready to do anything to keep healthy. The projects of giving out mosquito nets to people free of charge was one of the strategies of the goal in reducing the infant mortality rates due to malaria. Moreover, it has helped in making the Anti-retrial viral (ARVs) drugs to be very affordable for people who are infected with HIV/AIDS (Richard, 2004). The united nation in every member country ensures that it collaborates with other small entities in promoting health issues. It funds the upcoming local non-governmental entities that are focussed in educating the general public on the importance of implementing some health strategies like having protected sex to prevent one self from contracting HIV/AIDS. It is also known to assist the locally formed orphanages by either sponsoring the children's education or giving supportive materials like food, shelter and clothing. In addition, it supports youth organisations in the developing countries so as to reduce the unemployment rates. In the process of assisting youths in their projects, it also educates tem against the use of drugs. It sponsors programs that fight against drug abuse so as to have a healthy nation and thus a global healthy nation (Richard, 2004). The other issue in the millennium development goals is to ensure that education among the women and the girl child has increased. The goal has faced great challenges due to the cultural beliefs of very many developing countries. They do not believe that women should be educated. The fact that the goal has faced this challenge, it has not given up as it has ensured the continuity of educating women and the girl child. It has funded the respective governments to ensure that women are educated on matters to do with child birth to prevent the high infant mortality rates and pregnant mothers in Africa. The goal was to ensure that women know the importance of pre-natal care and post-natal care. For this reason it made the governments to make the pre-natal and post-natal care to be accessible to all women by making the services cheap and available in all areas. It funded the governments to ensure that the goal was pursued. It has brought tremendous change so far as many pregnant women are now accessing the once expensive hospital care. This is saving the economy the loss of burying the people who are supposed to help in building the economy. Moreover, by saving the pregnant women the independent ratio within the society is reduced. The gaol is set in the belief that by educating the girl child, an economy is bound to grow very fast. This is because the women are known to take care of their families and are very hard working thus very important to arm them with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute fully in building of the economy. It has ensured that the girl child is educated in many developing countries by funding the local organisations that help in the prevention of early girl child marriages and female genital mutilation. It is also responsible in funding occasions that are focussed in educating the general public on the importance of educating the girl child. Despite that, the goal is to ensure that every child has access to primary and secondary education. In funding the governments to ensure that it makes education within its country affordable or free for the children in the respective countries. When the society is highly educated it means that the labour will be very skilled and thus efficient. The production levels will therefore increase making the country's economy to be better (Richard, 2004). In the millennium goals, there is a highlight on how to ensure that the developing countries have steady economic status. It is highly concerned on how to reduce the unemployment rates and inflation. Developing countries have long been characterised by negative Gross National Product (GNP). For such reasons, there has been need to help the developing countries in ensuring that they have positive gross domestic product (GDP). There has been the need to come up with ways to reduce the debt of the developing countries. The debt crisis in developing countries has been brought about by poor governance and too much borrowing from the World Bank. The developing countries are characterised by corruption in their governments. The government misuses the funds they get to complete particular projects (Rod, 2006). Most developing countries are characterised by corruption and poor governance as a major hindrance to development. The United Nations has very strict rules on how countries utilise their funds thus the assisted countries must account on how the funds are utilised. Moreover, the United Nations has an already set budget on how the money will be used thus if the money if finished before any project is completed, then it means that the country has to account for it. If countries refuse to account for the money then next time they are not funded at all. These strict rules make the countries to ensure that their governments reduce the misappropriation of the funds. Developing countries are also characterised by civil wars, which the United Nations helps in settling disputes as it is a peace keeping organisation. Together with other organisations like the Red Cross society, the United Nations is responsible in providing a place for the displaced victims of war. They also provide relief food and medication for such individuals. The officials of the organisation usually meet to discuss how negotiations of peace will go on to stop any civil war within a particular country. If it is two political parties within the country at loggerheads, they send representatives to help them negotiate so that the two can come to equal terms and make the country go back to having peace. This is because war and corruption are a major hindrance to development and such things need to be eradicated. The organisation has realised the only way to ensure that the developing countries reach their 2015 goal, is by critically dealing with the two issues (Rod, 2006). A good example is how the United Nations was involved in making sure that Kenya reaches a good deal between the two rival political parties to stop the war that had come up due to the 2007 presidential elections. Moreover, it can be seen when it is now trying to help Zimbabwe from their political crisis that has brought their economy down due to the dictatorship of their president Mugabe. As mentioned earlier in the paper, many developing countries are characterised by high unemployment rates. For this reason, the United Nations has set its branches in all its member countries. The offices provide employment opportunities for the local residents within the member countries. As it tries to reduce unemployment rates by trying to help the countries to review its economic policies, it also employs some of the local residents. It has very many departments that can employ people of different educational backgrounds. In addition, there are local organisations that come up in helping orphans, the destitute, HIV/AIDS victims and drug abuse. The organisations are usually funded by the United Nations to continue with their mission of helping the destitute for the sake of ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities in accessing the basic needs such as education, health care, shelter and clothing. It also gives the students an opportunity to work with them in internship programs. This helps the students to gain experience and thus prepared to join the job market. It also makes the students to have a chance of getting employment after they complete their studies in any international organisation. It also helps in transfer of technology from one country to another. When it sets up its branches in a specific country, it comes with new ways of doing things. Moreover, since it is an international organisation, when countries meet, they are able to discuss on how to enhance new technology within the member countries (Rod, 2006). For instance, while setting up the millennium development goals, it was a concern to increase the communication network within the developing countries. It was estimated that by 2015, every citizen was expected to have access to a mobile phone to increase communication. In addition, the rates of payments had to go down so that everyone can afford to communicate. This could be reached by ensuring that every country opens up for different communication companies to venture in the market. By bringing such competition within the country, then the rates of payment would go down. Moreover, in increasing the rate and efficiency of communication, there is need for everyone to have access to the internet. This requires every individual to have some knowledge of computer studies that has proved to be very economical in performing any duties. For this reason, schools are expected to focus on educating its students on computer use. In the developing countries, there has been the campaign to set up computer labs for the students. The United Nations has taken the responsibility to donate computers to various schools in the rural areas in the developing countries. This shows how it is very focussed in ensuring that there is global development by making sure that the developing countries have access to the same technology as the developed countries (Carlos, 2005). The millennium development goals are also focussed on ensuring that the environment is conserved to ensure continuous flow of resources currently and for the generation to come. For such reasons, there has been the need to change the production methods to ensure full utilisation of raw materials without wastage. Moreover, there has been a debate on how the various countries can come up with different ways to have energy apart from depending on the oil energy. The various countries are focussed on preserving the environment by avoiding all sorts of pollution by using the current technological methods of production (Carlos, 2005). Conclusion In conclusion, there are very many organisations that are focused on ensuring global development but the main one according to me is the United Nations. This is because it started its work a long time ago and it has grown over the years. Moreover, it has ensured that it has captured very many counties all over the world that any country that is not its member is bound to be left out in its project of enhancing global development.
