I never complained about my life situation then because I did not want my mother to feel like a failure. Instead of wallowing in self pity, I decided to take my future into my own hands. Choosing instead to fight discrimination and prejudice by excelling where I knew the others in my school would fail.
Their artless words and simple expressions are sufficient to turn the atmosphere wonderful. In the same way, however, they are the weakest group of society that is unable to protect itself from the injustices, inequalities and exploitations of the adults, because of their being weak both physically and mentally as well.
I find it fun to engage other people in talks about social matters and have the capacity to make fast friends, which I feel is an essential requirement for an individual interested in doing social work. Most importantly, my strong problem-solving skills makes me suited for the field of sociology as it would help me to effectively find solutions to people’s problems whenever they are distressed and need help, a service which is perfectly rendered with only individuals with extensive knowledge on sociology.
The Korean culture is far different from the American culture. As such, I have to adapt to the Western culture and know more about the people and their ways of living. Furthermore, I still need to practice my conversational and writing skills in English.
Eventually, someone let slip that the true job of an archaeologist does not involve carrying a bullwhip, booby trapped cursed artifacts, or fighting Nazis. My curious young mind drew a blank. I no longer knew what to be. I no longer had a clear goal of what it was I did want to do.
I would wish to go on further with a Ph.D. Program and find fulfillment in terms of what I could possibly contribute in the field of neurology later on.
Tackling the rigors of graduate school actually is not foreign to me. I am used to hard work and am willing to spend sleepless nights in the pursuit of an objective.
