The two majors that I want to study that will provides me with the tool and skills I need to become a solution maker that can contribute directly towards these types of problems are sociology and communications. During my teenage years in high, I got involved in several activities that help me develop leadership and help others in the process. In high school, I work as a volunteer in a food drive to collect food items that we ultimately are delivered to the homeless which one of the most deprived social groups in any society. My church had a program in which the youth volunteer to take field trips to children and elderly centres to spend time with them and bring some joy into their lives. I like working with people and helping my peers. I work as a freelance tutor helping other kids with math homework. It gives great satisfaction been part of an initiative that will improve the quality of life of individuals. The fields of sociology and communication are correlated to a certain extent since sociologist are responsible for performing the social investigations and the journalist is the professional that reports the findings of these investigations to the general public. Sociologists work a lot performing primary research in order to learn more about human behaviour. Primary research is original research that is gathered in the field by a person or team of investigators. For me this type of work is exciting. It gives a person a chance to go straight to the root of the problem to the gather the data that will ultimately lead to a viable solution. Doing this type of research eventually in its latter stages involves the use of analytical models and the use of statistics to analyze the data to create valuable information. I have always liked math and statistics, thus working in this type of work would be very gratifying for me. The knowledge a person gain from learning about sociology and working in that field is a great attribute that would create value for any person working the communications field. A deeper understanding of human behaviour can help a person working in the communication field become better at their job since they become more adept at interviewing people and retrieving information from people.
