Due to the fact that medical science has created vaccines for illnesses that were used by nature in the past to balance out the population of mankind against our available resources, we have created an imbalance in our food supply due to the longer life expectancy rate among our elderly.
Since our population just recently crossed the seven billion marker, we know that the world population is in a crisis that, although not of the Malthusian Catastrophe type yet, is going to affect our overall population in the very near future. That is because even with the advances in food sciences, our increased ability to grow food, eat alternatives, and create hybrid diets will still not produce the kind of food supply that the world needs in order to prevent famine, death, and strife in the nations that do not have these advanced food making capabilities.
