Extract of sample "Cold War - USA and USSR"

The cold war was initiated with the success of the U.S.S.R and U.S. allies in the war against the Nazis. Shortly after the Nazi defeat, both U.S and U.S.S.R identified their superiority and posed against each other as a major threat.

Political struggle and adversities in the foreign relation between communist nations and U.S had been the main political condition during the cold war era. The security interests of both the U.S and communist nations were fragile and vulnerable in this period. The U.S. had the interest to allow free trade among nations but the U.S.S.R due to the fear of falling victims to western influence abandoned this trade plan. This aggravated the conflict between U.S and U.S.S.R. The U.S. shortly discovered that Russian expansion in Europe could derail their power and hence decided to support Europe in getting prosperous status. This kind of conflict in the economical and political arena of both the U.S and Russia led to insecurity among citizens of the U.S.

During the cold war era, the protection of human rights and economic and political freedom was the major concern of the American government. According to (May 2010) “At the dawn of the atomic age, protection against external dangers took the form of a nuclear arsenal; protection against internal enemies took the form of a nuclear family”. During the cold war era, the international tension elevated due to the nuclear possession by two countries. A Federal Civil Administration service was formulated by the Federal government in response to the public anxiety and to defend against nuclear threats. The government educated the American citizens about the ways to protect themselves in case of a nuclear attack. The urban population was cautioned about the survival techniques of nuclear attack as they could be the main target of enemies. A fallout shelter was launched by the civil defense as a measure to attend casualties that occurred from nuclear war.

The U.S. is still under threat from some nations on nuclear attack and alertness and caution from both government and public side is mandatory. From the part of the public, it is essential for every individual to get educated about nuclear protection techniques. Every citizen should update themselves with the current political scenario of their nation. Families should conserve food and other necessities if a civil war outbreak is expected. The government, on the other hand, must provide adequate information about the chances of an expected nuclear attack. As per (Frost,2011)“The United States has spent billions working to prevent the catastrophe of a nuclear terror attack but has done little to prepare for it “The government should warn all the departments about the possible attack and should secure funds for the causality and revival measures. As we conclude a legible question to put forward is, how far the hostile relationship with Iran could lead to a nuclear war on the U.S?

The U.S has been in war with Vietnam decades ago and the result was a lost battle. The veterans of the Vietnam war were not welcomed in a regular manner. They were mistreated by the government as well as the common men. “About 80 percent of the enlisted men who fought in Vietnam were from working-class and poor families”.(Reading). The government did not provide adequate treatment to the injured veterans according to the Veteran Bill and Relevance Act. The public spat on the war returned soldiers and even threw the blood of pig on them as a sign of revenge. On the contrary, the veterans who returned from Iraq were treated fairly by the government as the provisions were already made to support them by all means. The wounded veterans from the Iran war have been treated by Veteran Affairs Department and even the public welcomed them without any hatred. The reason for the distinction in the treatment of both these veterans is that the war with Vietnam was a failure whereas the war with Iran was a success. Read More
