This includes the issue of carbon emissions, and its contribution in increasing the global temperature. Lastly, to lend more credibility to the research findings, a summary of an extensive debate between two of the most prominent environmentalists Clive Hamilton and George Monbiot, regarding the greenhouse gas emissions and its impact on climate change has been included. Practical examples, such as the increase in water levels as asserted by Pomeranz (2009) in his study of the Great Himalayan watershed, and its impact on developing countries such as India and China draw attention to the contribution of sociology and sociological research, in understanding climate change. The study of climate change in particular and the environment in general, from a sociological perspective, thus widens ones’ general understanding of the issue and hence is a credible source for the study of the global phenomenon.
