Just to note, some movies such as “gangs of New York,” “The Godfather “and “No country for old men” among other blockbuster Hollywood movies, they portray villains as social heroes.
Society has come to expect a form of expected level of deviant criminal behavior amongst itself as long as the ultimate good is in the best interest of the people. This is as to agree to the concept that “the end justifies the means.” This is the Machiavellian way of argument as advocated in his book The Prince. People have come to wrongly accept a certain amount of social deviant behavior, criminal practices because over a long period of time, the social deviants have come to be associated with celebrity status. This has been the result of the portrayal that the media has portrayed them giving them celebrity status (Ballantine and Spade 167). For example, criminals such as the infamous Carlos “the Jackal” up to date is seen by most teenagers and even adults as a celebrity due to his media portrayal. Many movies have hence negatively impacted on the social policies and laws and in my opinion; I strongly disagree with such a glorification of
