Patriotism is one's love for the country bound by beliefs and values that are held in the country they belong to.

Regarding a patriot’s and a nationalist’s way of perceiving issues, one realize that there exists a difference. A patriot according to Pellerin (2006) considers all people to be equal and is also able to tolerate critics and learn from it. A nationalist on the other hand considers people belonging to a country to be unequal and can never tolerate any criticism.

Patriotism in Canada is very weak. The country is more biased toward nationalism. Canadians can never accept being mistaken for an American when abroad unlike their counterparts who never mind being mistaken for them. They would love to be considered superior to Americans in whatever they do. Pellerin (2006) argues that Canadians prefer to take strong beer as compared to weak beer taken by Americans. All these are signs of weak patriotism that exists in Canada.
