Excessive wealth is a social problem and the filthy rich people have become a burden to other individuals. Much evidence is seen where economic growth has resulted to increased inequality. For instance, in 1980, the upper class group that constituted 0.01% of the total population earned an income of one hundred and seventy seven times of the total income of 90 % of the lower class Americans. By 2006, the ratio had elevated to 976 ties. Such trend has been caused by reduction in income of the middle and lower class and increase in taxes to support the wealthy. In addition, the reader has learnt that the social and economic lifestyle of the upper class group has made the prices of houses, education, transportation and sports to increase, making the lower and middle class individuals suffer at their expense (Ehrenreich, Pg 28).
The third aspect that the reader has learnt is that the rich have robbed the rest of individuals their pleasure and beauty. In this case, they have cleared social arenas and stadiums so as to develop skybox suites that cost more than $100, 000 per season, which is quite expensive for the ordinary people. In relation to the cultural aspect, the filthy rich individuals have increased the charges of artworks, forcing the museums to charge a higher rate of admission, thus limiting the ordinary individuals from visiting the museum.
Inequality has brought about the reduction of well-being in the society. As stated by Wilson Edward, people enjoy interacting with the nature , thus if the rich decide to substitute nature with building enormous houses or ranches, then most individuals may be affected by the uncouth behavior.
