The article states that around 30% of the prostitutes had experienced such encounters and around 23% of the customers experienced such encounters. The article further states that such practices are more common when the prostitute is older and may seem to be unattractive to the customer. The article further adds that such practices are quite prevalent in markets where customers pay a higher price for the prostitutes such as the escort service industry. The author argues that their research proved that when higher amount of money was involved, unsafe sexual practices were quite evident. The author states that this is because higher wages paid to the prostitute makes the prostitute give up their health protection.
