Task: Intro to Human Services 201 -Agency paper Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Programs Human services entail an expansive spectrum of actions that have the objective of attaining the human needs through an interdisciplinary approach. It usually focuses on effective ways of remediating and preventing problems emanating from human relations, addictions or aging. Its chief objective is the overall attainment of quality of living in the lives of individuals undertaking the services (Delany, Joseph & Roberts 1). These human services include services that entail substance abuse, rehabilitation programs, elderly care among others. It is essential for societies to have these human services since they enable the adjustment and rehabilitation of persons. Substance abuse is developing into an uncontrollable phenomenon thus becoming an impediment to the healthy growth of society (Delany, Joseph & Roberts 1). This involves excessive intake of addictive drugs such as heroin, cocaine, tobacco, marijuana or alcohol. Once ingested into the system in considerable quantities they integrate with the blood and become a necessity. Substance abuse is a major issue for the 21st Century. It is vital for them to acquire redemption from programs that institute individuals who suffer from these addictions (Delany, Joseph & Roberts 1). This paper discusses on Substance abuse and rehabilitation programs and their benefits to the contemporary society. Option A: The Florida Department of Children and Families “The Florida Department of Children and Families” (FDCF) is an institution that deals with family conflicts or irresponsible behaviors that are harmful to them or their relatives. One of the programs they include in their services is substance abuse. Substance abuse programs are significant to persons addicted to drugs or other intoxicants whose excessive intake can be detrimental to an individual’s health. The chief objective of these initiatives is to prevent rather than lower the drug abuse of individuals within a specific locale (Florida Department of Children and Families 1). Implications of drug abuse are severe and encompass criminal involvement, job loss, educational loss, strenuous relationships and impairment of judgment. Adolescents and young adults are mostly susceptible to the vices of substance abuse. Substance abuse programs enable the addicts to avoid the hazardous drug experiences and chemical dependency on the problem. The Florida Department of Children and Families utilizes a Substance Abuse Response Guide (SARG) process to mitigate the impediments of drug and alcohol abuse within the environs of the Florida State. This process of SARG entails the acquisition of information about the addicts and evaluating it. This will be through their network of informants within the diverse localities of the state. Secondly, they build a collaborative effort of the community and state authorities. Third, it administers the resources that are used to inhibit the drug abuse in the state. The SARG is an effective process that can enable the establishment of the drug prone areas and addicts hence assist them in overcoming the vice (Florida Department of Children and Families 1). The collaboration of the community’s constituents and the state authorities can enable the identification and apprehension of traffickers of these illicit substances. In addition, this can elevate the confidence of communities in disclosing activities that propel the abuse of these substances. The accumulation of information is essential in the determination of opportune assistance to the addicts before their situations reach uncontrollable levels. The FDCF has a State Epidemiology and Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW), which entails discussing epidemiologic details that involve the repercussions of drug abuse. They come up with valuable information that stake, for example, rehabilitation centers can use to devise remedial programs. This program is resourceful to the numerous authorities that are interested in eradicating these actions. In addition, the therapeutic centers of addicts can acquire relevant information that will assist them in acknowledging the mannerisms of addicts (Florida Department of Children and Families 1). In addition, the information of the epidemiologic discussions can act as a guideline to the prevention providers on the implications of excessive substance abuse. These discussions are important in establishing the dissimilarities in adolescent and adult substance problems. Adolescents have different reactions to the addictions in comparison to adults and the epidemiologic panel tries to establish the best approaches to these two personalities. The FDCF also has an Evidence Based Practices Workgroup (EBPW) that consists of professionals in the drug abuse measures. These professionals congregate frequently to deliberate on strategies that health authorities need to embrace in rehabilitating the drug abusers. The group also reevaluates the community initiatives of mitigating substance abuse and provides consultations to assist them in strengthening their priorities. Subsequently, the EBPW identifies and establishes suitable practices of evaluating the drug cases. My Reaction Abusing drugs is irresponsible and individuals have to avoid since it has negative implications to the personality and life of an individual. In some cases, the abuse of substances can cause an individuals demise. There are preventive programs in institutions such as the “Florida Department of Children and Families” (FDCF). This institution has devised sufficient programs to alter the dependency of addicts on drug substances that distort their character to an irresponsible one. These programs provide an advantage to the addicts to redeem themselves of their cravings of the drugs. It is not easy for the addicts to self regulate thus rehabilitation programs provide intervention of the addicts loved ones and professionals who will encourage the individual to discard this behavior (Florida Department of Children and Families 1). These collaborative efforts of the community and state authorities are vital in creating an environment that is responsible for the wellbeing of its inhabitants. The health authorities are able to introduce individuals in the program due to the assistance of the community. In addition, their discussions on issues relating to the drug problems provide important details that can enable the authorities to identify the best methods of treating the addicts. They also highlight new elements that have come up and define guidelines of strategies that health institutions should adopt. Rehabilitation programs promote the healthy living of abusers and their successful integration into the society. Moreover, other rehabilitative programs train the addicts in various tasks to enable them utilize these skills in life after successfully completing their rehabilitation. Clearly, the FDCF is persistent in establishing statewide interventions that discourage the escalation of this vice through employing expert’s advice and the relentless efforts of its workforce. I would work for the FDCF since it assists addicts and gives them a second chance to redeem themselves and use their talents to flourish in life. Secondly, the rehabilitation of abusers diminishes the criminal activities since drugs are known to be an inducement for irresponsible behavior. These criminal activities tarnish the tranquil relations in the society and generate conflicts, which impede development. Thirdly, the intervention of the substance programs will enable the additives to develop positive relationships with their families and comrades. Consequently, the domestic conflicts and underperformance in their occupations will diminish since they will recover from the usual negligent mannerisms of addicts. Option B: North Carolina Division of Social Sciences (NCDSS) Website This website offers various services that entail health and community based initiatives, for example, foster care and crisis intervention. These services connect potential children to caring homes that are interested in the sufficient development of the child. The NCDSS has Child Support Enforcement (CSE) services that involve agents locating negligent parents. The CSE suppresses them through courts to oblige in their payments to finance the child in acquiring essentials. This program represents the child in the legal settlements of the payments that ensure the child does not lack the fundamental of life (North Carolina Division of Social Sciences 1). The CSE agency contracts lawyers that will be representative of the agency and not the child. This program is critical in ensuring the parents fulfill their financial obligations to their children. In enforcing these orders, the CSE representatives are capable of initiating legal confrontations on the negligent parents and withhold their wages unless they reimburse the child support. This program targets all negligent custodians irrespective of their income levels. The Foster Care program of NCDSS comprise of temporary living arrangements of children enduring neglect or abuse from their biological parents. If the parents are suspected of undergoing issues such as drug addiction, which predisposes the child to the drugs (North Carolina Division of Social Sciences 1). Thus, the Department of Social Services (DSS) perceives this as an unhealthy environment for the child and acquires him/her. However, the service is insistent that the foster parents should have a license, which authorizes them to inquire for fostering opportunities. Another service entails the substance abuse programs that strive to address the substance abuse and mental complications of individuals. The website has mechanisms that participants can utilize to access these services and possibly acquire assistance. These associations ensure the workers understand the human dynamics and organizational structure in communities. This aspect will be essential in determining how the interactions influence the character of persons. The works have to have skills of identifying and undertaking interventions that promote the progress of the rehabilitative initiatives. This will enable them in analysis of situations and developments of strategies that are critical in facilitating the assistance of clients attain desirable outcomes. These services may involve consultations and counseling of the workers to the clients to discard their irresponsible mannerisms. Thirdly, the workers encompass qualities in planning and assessing interventions in systematic ways. This entails an affirmative comprehension of the problems and establishing efficient work strategies. This will be useful for workers in the outdoor interventions, which require the worker to have such skills to determine the appropriate actions to undertake. The fourth qualification, the worker should acknowledge conditions that promote or limit variations of the clients from the objective. The conceptions of the major models of human interactions facilitate the healthy treatment of individuals.
