Housing and community services affiliation Housing and community services Aging in place Aging in place refers to the ability by a person to live in their own home and community independently, safely and comfortable. This should also be done regardless of their income, ability level or age. Wardrip (2010) asserts that aging in place advocates for the provision of mechanism to older adults to retain their original habitats. Older adults share the preference to stay in their homes till their death.

Regardless of the significance of the issue, numerous challenges have affected the requirement. For instance, developers target these homes since they are easy to achieve targets. They transfer older adults to care homes. Another barrier to this accomplishment is lack of affordable housing system for older adults. With a high cost of living a, expensive mortgages cannot be sustained by older adults (Wardrip, 2010). Future challenges are also based on the lack of proper state incentives to put in place affordable housing system for older adults.

The cost of owning a home in increasing significantly high which makes it difficult for an older adult to achieve one with no source of income (Wardrip, 2010). Strategies have been developed to enhance ageing in place. For instance, the state is considering creating homes that are affordable for older adults. Anther state is connecting already owned homes to social care to enhance funding of the cost of living (Wardrip, 2010). Considering their age, older adults cannot drive. From their weakness transportation option for them should be provided. 2. Medicaid waiver Medicaid waiver refers to the ability of the state to exempt a particular population group from high medical rates.

Connecting Medicaid waiver to home and community-based services, the state detect person mostly older adults with poor living conditions and health disparities (Mathematica Policy Research, 2007). The state then opts to provide affordable health care for them. The money follows the person program is highly connected to Medicaid waiver. The program aims to minimize the reliance of patients on health institutions. The program targets people with the need for long term care. It then minimizes the cost at which they could fund their long term health care.

In addition, older adults and people with disabilities are provided with care in the community (Mathematica Policy Research, 2007). This is similar to Medicaid waiver, where with collaboration with home and community-based services detection of older adults and disabled people is done then provisions of health services is done in the community. 3. Alternatives for older adults One alternative for older adults in regards to housing is the access to state provided apartments which are cheaper to obtain of provided by the state as donations (Wardrip, 2010).

In addition, older adults advised to relocate in residential areas with access to their needs such as a transportation system. In addition, an older adult may opt to live in a home where social services would be responsible for their health (Wardrip, 2010). Life and death in assisted living also provides option for older adults to survive in the society. The program provided alternative such reliance on social services for care. In addition, the program is of the assumption that the state is accountable for the wellbeing, housing and lifestyle of older adults in the society.
