Throughout the history of mankind, theologists, physicians, legislators and scientists have articulated various hypothesis, theories and laws that are usually confined to the study of the binary sexes and intersexed characters are rarely studied as a separated subject of interest. Moreover, this little study of the phenomenon has not got enough attention from a stigma and trauma standpoint. The time has come to redefine our gender categories to include a third dimension of it; the intersexed individuals.

The cultured and educated view of human liberties associated with common male and female genders is required to be developed in such a way that may cater the legitimate rights to intersexed individuals, who are not only distinct physically but also have specialized psychological requirements. This will not only help to recognize them as a separate entity but will also help to make them more productive towards the social, cultural and environmental development of our society. Recognition of intersexed individuals as an independent gender can help to reduce the social alienation and indifference they suffer most communities even today.

These intersexed activists have started to fight for the legitimate right of recognition as a distinct gender in most of the societies all over the globe. Many countries and communities have already accepted this plea as a genuine and legitimate right. However, a lot more activism is required to get this approved in many other societies, communities and nations. Before getting into details of the topic it is important to define some fundamental terminologies associated with concept sex and sexuality. . The first and foremost important is the concept of gender that was primarily defined on the basis of some physical attributes of a human body.

These attributes are triggered from the dominance of chromosomes, hormones and genes of a specific type. In common, the dominance defines the gender of a human being. However, more interestingly this dominance is not absolute. Science has proved the subjectivity of this gender dominance in a human being to various factors including social, environmental and changes related to genetics. This complex nature of human physic instigates further complexities in the phenomenon of gender which needs a redefinition time and again to adjust with the changing human environment and societies.

These complexities of human genetic and harmonic constituents paired with lack of knowledge and scientific evidence from ancient times until recent past have denied the correct definition of sex, gender and sexualities. The psychological complexities, stigma and trauma that an intersexed individual has to suffer are quite fresh phenomenon in this context. The time has arrived to launch a thoughtful reconsideration in to the gender complexities of intersexed individuals. A higher level of interest is required from theologists, physicians, legislators and social scientists to form a more acceptable protocol for the intersexed individuals in primarily binary sex dominant societies and communities.

Intersex activists are trying to increase awareness among individuals with defined and undefined sex to ensure the rights of equal social standing and to eliminate the element of shame and secrecy from those have some innate sexual deformity. These activist organizations, societies and individuals
