The country has many rivers with the largest being the Guden, the Stor, the Varde and the Skjern. Major islands in Denmark are Zealand, Fyn, Lolland and Amager. The country is low-lying with its land mainly covered with glacial moraine deposits. In between the hills, there are extensive level plains that were created as a result of melt water that was washed away from glaciers deposited sand. Mainly, the densest settlements are on the heath-land plains. One of the most important geographical divisions of the country is the boundary line that is between the sandy West Jutland and loam plains that are located in Eastern and Northern Denmark (Encyclopaedia of Nations).

Denmark’s climatic conditions are temperate. Days are mainly humid and overcast. During winters the weather is mild and windy while summers are cool. The average temperature of the country is 0°C (32°F) in the month of February, which is the coldest, and 17°C (63°F) in the month of July, which is the warmest of all. Foreign direct investment - 1.07% in 2010 Politics Denmark has never been colonized although it has experienced an inflow of foreigners from England and Netherlands. It has a constitution monarchy form of government which is organized in the form of parliamentary democracy. The government has its seat in Copenhagen which is the capital city. The powers that are used to manage internal affairs are devolved from the central government to islands of Greenland and Faroe of which this polity is known as Danish Realm.

In terms of conflicts, Denmark and Canada are one of the peaceful countries in the world. The country has not been involved in any conflicts with its neighbours – an aspect that has led to steady growth of its economy. It is rated second among peaceful countries in the world due to its low numbers of inmates, reduction in the overall spending and low rates of violent crimes and homicides that have been experienced in the country. This has been encouraged by its good governance and good relations with its neighbours.

Culture Major ethnic group is the Scandinavian ethnicity which constitutes 87% of the whole population. Other ethnic groups - Inuits, Germans, Turks, Faroeses, Somalis and Iranians (Encyclopaedia of Nations). The official language in Denmark is Danish. In addition, both Greenland and Faroe Islands have their languages which the majority of people speak, although Danish is used for official purposes and is taught in school.
