213). These questions are more intense when there is issue of imprisoned female violent offenders. Some scholar argues that rehabilitation is more helpful to female violent offenders while contradict with the issues of imprisoning female offenders (Bourgon & Armstrong, 2005, p. 4). As per those who are against the imprisonment of female offenders, rehabilitation would aid in reducing cases of repeated offenders as well as saving the tax payers money. Rehabilitation in expense of imprisonment is also argued to reduce the congestion in prisons. Those who are for imprisonment argue that imprisonment helps in administering justices for the offended. Individuals who are imprisoned are offenders and they deserve the punishment (Bourgon and Armstrong, 2005, p. 4). According to the supporters of the imprisonment, prisons offer rehabilitation services for those who are enthusiastic and capable of changing (Gaes, Wallace, et al, 2002, p.359). Numerous studies have confirmed the view that there are fewer female offenders compared to male offenders (Poels, 2007, p. 227). This situation can be attributed to a number of factors including the nature of offences and frequency of offending by members of either gender. The role of imprisonment and rehabilitation in controlling crime is undoubtedly very important and is central in the criminal justice system. Since gender partly influences commission of offences and the issues of imprisonment and rehabilitation, recent studies in the field of criminology have shifted attention to the gender aspects that are specific to either gender. The corrections component of the criminal justice system has been designed in such a way that it provides for the specific needs of the women offenders, and implementation of intervention programs that target this category of offenders. The question of imprisonment and rehabilitation of female offenders and how to address it is informed by the philosophical argument that the issue of gender is relevant in all aspects of life (Lewis and Stanley, 2000, p. 74). There are particular issues that affect one gender more than others and influence their involvement in crime, as well as their rehabilitation. Women are affected more with the issues such as sexual abuse, depression, adolescent motherhood, and domestic violence among others (Poels, 2007, p. 228). It is the women realities such as the afore-mentioned that motivates research in areas such as women imprisonment and rehabilitation. Objectives of the Research The main objective of the research is to compare and contrast the relevant of the imprisonment and rehabilitation center to the female violent offenders. As such, the paper will focus on the significant of the prison in rehabilitating the offender and also the imperativeness of rehabilitation center in advancing the behaviors of an offender.
