There is need to investigate how the involvement of parents in the academic work of their children is likely to impact on their performance. However the outcome of this research is likely to be affected by some level of bias. The sources of bias are from lack of standardized protocol in data collection. The next form of bias is based on selection bias due to poor identification of the study population. Some parents may not be willing to reveal how they take part in the academic progress of their children. Experimental design which relates to how participants are allocated to the different conditions in an experiment is likely to be investigated. This will take the approach of independent groups in which the different participants are used in each case of the independent variable. Using the same group of parents to responds to all the issues.
The treatment group is parents aged below 35 years while control group is parents above 35 years. My outcome of interest is the extent to which the parents take part in ensuring their children achieve great success in their academic work. This will be measured by the grades that the children attain in school.
The statistical analysis to be used in answering the research question is Pearson correlation which tests the strength of the association between two continuous variables.
